STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEAM

“A COMPARATIVE STUDY TO ASSESS THE


KNOWLEDGE OF POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN
SYNDROME AMONG ADOLESCENT GIRLS OF
SELECTED RURAL VERSUS URBAN AREAS OF
VADODARA WITH VIEW TO PROVIDE NEED
BESED COUNSELING”.
OBJECTIVE
Assess the Knowledge regarding Polycystic ovarian
syndrome among Adolescent girls those residing at
selected Rural areas.
Assess the Knowledge regarding Polycystic ovarian
syndrome among Adolescent girls those residing at
selected Urban areas.
Compare the level of Knowledge regarding
Polycystic ovarian syndrome among Adolescent girls
selected Rural and Urban areas.
Determine the association between pre test
Knowledge score of Adolescent girls regarding
Polycystic ovarian syndrome with selected socio
demographic variables
ASSUMPTIONS
• Adolescent girls from Urban and Rural areas may
have varying level of Knowledge of Polycystic ovary
syndrome.

• Need based counseling will help the Adolescent girls


to overcome and manage the problem of Polycystic
ovary syndrome.

• Adolescent girls will co –operate and participate in


this study.
HYPOTHESES
H1 : There will be a significant difference in the
Knowledge level regarding the Polycystic ovarian
syndrome among Adolescent girls in selected Rural and
Urban areas of Vadodara.

H2 : There will be a significant association between


the Knowledge scores regarding Polycystic ovarian
syndrome among Adolescent girls residing in selected
Rural and Urban area of Vadodara with their selected
socio- demographic variables.
OPERATIONAL DEFINATIONS
Assess:

In this study Assess refers to process of the critical
analysis, evaluation and judgment in urban and rural areas
regarding Knowledge polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Knowledge:
In this study Knowledge refers to the correct response
given by the respondent on the issue of questionnaire
regarding knowledge on Polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome:
In the study it refers to a hormonal disorder caused by
excess insulin, heredity, excess androgen, and low
grade inflammation by pathogenic micro-organism in
the Polycystic ovarian syndrome.

• Adolescent girls :
In this study Adolescent girls refer to the girls age
group between 10 to 24 those at selected Urban and
Rural areas in Vadodara.
Urban areas:
In this study it refers an area of Vadodara which is
managed and controlled by Municipal corporation.

Rural areas:
In this study it refers an areas in Waghodiya Taluka
which is managed and controlled by Gram panchayat.

Need based counseling:

Sample and sampling techniques: The sample in this
study is 60 primigravida mothers who belonging to
Waghodiya Village and attending the Obstetrics OPD of
Dhiraj Hospital and available during the research study and
non probability convenient sampling technique is used.

Inclusion criteria:
Primigravida mothers who are recommended by
obstetrician in Dhiraj Hospital.
Primigravida mothers belong to Waghodiya, attending
Dhiraj Hospital, Piparia, and Waghodiya Vadodara.
Primigravida mothers who are willing to participate in the
study.
Exclusion criteria:
 Primigravida mothers with postnatal complications
 Mothers above 35 years of age.
Critical and complicated pregnancy cases.
