 Cardiology is the study and treatment of disorders


of the heart
 Cardiology is a branch of medicine dealing with
disorders of the heart as well as parts of the
circulatory system
 This field includes medical diagnosis and treatment
of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease,
heart failure, valvular heart disease and
electrophysiology
 Physicians who specialize in the field of medicine
are called cardiologists

 Physicians who specialize in cardiac surgery are


called cardiothoracic surgeons or cardiac surgeons
 Coronary artery disease (narrowing of the arteries)
 Heart attack
 Abnormal heart rhythms
 Heart failure
 Heart valve disease
 Congenital heart disease
 Heart muscle diseases
