  INTRODUCTION

• The third molar has been most widely

discussed tooth in the dental literature, and
the debatable question “…to extract or not to
extract” seems to run into the next century.-

• IMPACTION?
 DEFINATION

– The term impaction was defined by Peterson as one

that fails to erupt into the dental arch within the
expected time and is positioned against another tooth, bone,
or soft tissue so that it’s further eruption is unlikely.

(Peterson, 1998).

 Mesio-Angular
• The impacted tooth is tilted toward the 2nd
molar in a mesial direction.
 Disto-Angular
• The long axis of the 3rd molar is angled
distally / posteriorly away from the 2nd
molar.
 Horizontal
• The long axis of the 3rd molar
is horizontal.
 Vertical
• The long axis of the 3rd molar is parallel to
the long axis of the 2nd molar

PERICORONITIS
Caries on the distal surface of the second Caries in the distal area of the crown of semi
molar, caused by a semi-impacted mandibular impacted third molar, due to entrapment of
third molar food and bad hygiene
 CONCLUSION

• The literature shows that Pain and swelling

were the most frequent symptoms while
pericoronitis was the most common pathology.

• Dentigerous cyst was most common cyst seen

in association with impacted Mandibular 3rd
molar.
