Turn your TRIALS to a

mountain of BLESSINGS

CHRIST IN US CATHOLIC COMMUNITY
Turn your TRIALS to
a mountain of
BLESSINGS
“Nobody is exempt from the trials of
life, but everyone can always find
something positive in everything even
in the worst of times.”

― Roy T. Bennett
Sirach 2:1 NRSV

[ Duties toward God ] “My child,

when you come to serve the
Lord, prepare yourself
for testing.”
The Letter of James is the first of seven
catholic or universal letters of the New
Testament of the Bible, along with
the First and Second Letters of Peter,
the First, Second, and Third Letters
of John, and Jude. These letters are so
called because they are addressed to the
universal Church in general, and not to a
specific community, as, for example, the
Philippians.
“My brothers and
[b]
sisters, whenever you
face trials of any kind,
consider it nothing but
joy.”
Seeing life's trials as a blessing
starts with having the right
perspective.

“God’s perspective.”
”because you know that the
testing of your faith produces
endurance; and let endurance
have its full effect, so that you
may be mature and complete,
lacking in nothing.”
What our mind thought
during TRIALS:
1. When difficult times come into
our lives and we find ourselves
unable to comprehend/to
understand; the enemy is quick to
throw doubts/questions into our
minds.
What our mind thought
during TRIALS:
2. We find ourselves
questioning God's
goodness/God's wisdom in
allowing these things to
happen.
What our mind thought
during TRIALS:
3. We may even be bitter and
angry with God for allowing
this to happen to us and
wonder if He really
understands.
What should we do?
4. But God's word confidently
reminds us that God does
understand . . .
•Things do not just happen
haphazardly to the Christian.
•With no meaning/no purpose.
Who is in CONTROL
DURING Trials?

God is in control
“DO NOT FEAR, for I AM WITH YOU, do
not be afraid, for I am your God; I will
strengthen you, I will help you, I will
uphold you with my victorious right hand”
-Isaiah 41:10 NRSV-
“DO NOT WORRY about anything, but in
everything by prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your requests be
made known to God”
- Philippians 4:6 NRSV-
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to
you. I do not give to you as the world
gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled,
and do not let them be afraid.”
-John 14:27 NRSV
“But even if you do suffer for
doing what is right, you are
blessed. Do not fear what they
fear,[b] and do not be intimidated.”
– 1 Peter 3:14 NRSV
God wants us to trust
Him in the trials of life.
ISAIAH 55:8-9 NRSV-CE

For my thoughts are not your thoughts,

nor are your ways my ways, says
the LORD. For as the heavens are
higher than the earth, so are my ways
higher than your ways and my thoughts
than your thoughts.
James 1:5 NRSV-CE

“If any of you is lacking in

wisdom, ask God, who gives to
all generously and ungrudgingly,
and it will be given you.”
James 1:6 NRSV-CE

“But ask in faith, never

doubting, for the one who
doubts is like a wave of the
sea, driven and tossed by the
wind”
St. James recognizes that we
may not always be able to
see the purpose in trials or
see the good that can come
from trials.
When we find ourselves unable
to see the good and the
purpose in trials we are to:

1. Keep on asking Him for wisdom.

2. In faith.
3. And our God who loves to give will
respond so that we can see the good
and the purpose in trials.
Isaiah 54:10 NRSV-CE
For the mountains may depart and
the hills be removed, but my
steadfast love shall not depart from
you, and my covenant of peace shall
not be removed, says the LORD, who
has compassion on you.
James 1:12 NRSV-CE
”Blessed is anyone who endures
temptation. Such a one has stood
the test and will receive the crown
[d]
of life that the Lord has
promised to those who love him.”
Saint James here reminds us
that this life is not all there is to
life.

•That right will be commended.

•That due reward will be give for
faithfulness.
Jeremiah 31:13 NRSV-CE
“Then shall the young women
rejoice in the dance, and the young
men and the old shall be merry. I
will turn their mourning into joy, I
will comfort them, and give them
gladness for sorrow.”
GOD will take
Care of everyone
Whose care is GOD’s Business
1 Peter 1:6-7 NRSV-CE
In this yourejoice,[a]even if now for a
little while you have had to suffer
various trials, so that the genuineness
of your faith—being more precious
than gold that, though perishable, is
tested by fire—may be found to result
in praise and glory and honor when
Jesus Christ is revealed.
1 Peter 2:20 NRSV-CE
If you endure when you are beaten for
doing wrong, what credit is that? But if
you endure when you do right and
suffer for it, you have God’s approval.
1 Peter 2:21 NRSV-CE
For to this you have been called,
because Christ also suffered for
you, leaving you an example, so
that you should follow in his steps.
