Unit 1: Beatitude

Lesson 1
 Know who Jesus considers as blessed.
 Evaluate myself if I meet each criteria of
blessedness.
 Determine which areas I need to work at in
order to be blessed in every way.
‘’ Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who
mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the
meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are
those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for
they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for
they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in
heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the
peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of
righteousness, for there is the kingdom of
heaven.’’
 Students will gather in group of 5. Each one
will think of a number between 1-5, and reveal
that number to the group. Then, each one had
to think of blessings received commensurate to
the number chosen. Members of the group will
be given at least a minute to enumerate their
blessings to the group. When everybody is
finished the group will take time to thank god
for the many wonderful blessings they
received.
 Beatitude, any of the blessings said by Jesus in
the Sermon on the Mount as told in the biblical
New Testament in Matthew.
 A short list of attitudes that receive God’s
approval.
 The poor in spirit – one who depends on no
one but God.
 Those who mourn – those who are broken and
grieving.
 The meek - the humble and the lowly.
 Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
– those who seek to please God in every way.
 The merciful – those who keep their hearts and
thoughts clean.
 The pure in heart - those who keep their hearts
and thoughts clean
 The peacemakers – those who bridge gaps in
relationships.
 The persecuted because of righteousness –
those who stand for their conviction at the cost
of their personal comfort.
Anyone who wants to be blessed should
strive to uphold these same standards that
God upholds. If you are serious about
experiencing God’s blessing in your life and
for your family, you need to seriously seek
God’s approval. You need to be:
 Esteemed highly by God. A really blessed
person is one who is highly regarded by
God. Have you ever thought of God
clapping His hands as a way of showing
how pleased he is with your life? Imagine
Him being so proud of you because you live
a life that honours Him.
 Approved of God. Would God smile at how
you live your life? Would He show a
‘’thumbs-up’’ sign with the decisions you
just made? You are truly blessed if God
approves your thoughts, words, and deeds.

‘’God Bless You’’ is more than a phrase for
most Filipinos. You see the sign in jeepneys,
homes, and other establishments. Most people
utter this as a send-off to someone who is
leaving or travelling. On a funnier note, some
people say it to anyone who sneezes as if
giving them priestly benediction. This proves
that the most filipinos realize that God is the
sours of all blessings.
