INTRODUCTION TO

INTRODUCTION
 All of us access the internet almost
daily, for finding some networking sites
like Facebook, twitter and much more.
 There are billions of web pages on the
web, with thousands more being added
every hour. The internet has become
the single most important factor for
influencing the world of the future. Let
us learn about internet in detail.
HISTORY OF EVOLUTION
OF INTERNET
 The internet didn’t just ‘happen’, there were
hundreds of discoveries and development stages
the internet could come into existence.
 The internet was originally conceived by the united
states department of Defense with the aim to
develop a communication network in which
computers can share information even if a part of
the network was destroyed. In 1968, this original
network, called ARPANet {for the Advanced
Research Project Agency that developed it }evolved
into a communication channel among contractors,
military personnel and university researchers who
were contributing to ARPA projects.
INTERNET TODAY
 Today the internet has grown
tremendously with millions of users
connected to it from countries around the
globe, through a broad array of electronic
and optical networking technologies.
 The future of internet is Interspace or
internet 2{commonly termed as
I2}.Internet 2 will use a high speed back
bone network to connect regional
connection centres called giga pops.
GOVERNING BODIES OF
THE INTERNET
 The growth of internet has been tremendous
with addition of millions of computer networks
from different countries around the world.
However, there is no single organisation that
owns, controls and , manages the Internet.
 There is no single authoritative organisation.
Instead that owns, controls and manage the
internet each autonomous network on the
internet it makes its own rules, regulations
and decisions about resources which should
be made publicly available.
INTERNET ENGINEERING
TASK FORCE
 {IETF} develops and maintains the
internet’s communication protocols.
It also resolves address problem and
work for the improvement of new
services. It also appoints working
groups to define standards,
coordinate services between
providers and work for the evolution
of internet architecture.
THE INTERNET ACTIVE
BOARD
 Is the technical body that oversees
the development of the internet suite
of protocols. It has two task forces,
the IETF and IRTF, which are
changed with investigating a
particulars area.
WORLD WIDE WEB
CONSORTIUM
 {W3C}- managed by the laboratory
for computer Science at the
Massachusetts Institute of
Technology is a joint initiative
between between MIT, CERN, and
INRIA to develop standards for the
evolution of the web.
HOW TO INTERNET
WORKS
 The Internet is based on the client on the
Client-Server technology. All computer on the
Internet can be categorized in two groups –
servers and clients and servers communicate
with one another.
 The server as program running on a powerful
computer. It provides Internet services to
other computer and network devices
connected to it.
 The client run on individual computer called
workstation example a Web browser like
Internet Explorer and Mozilla fire Fox etc.
HOW TO CONNECT TO
INTERNET
 When a stand alone computer is
connected to internet, it becomes a
part of the world wide web and can
access billions of web sites
 To connect to the internet, your
computer requries a modem, a web
browser and connection to an ISP
{Internet Service Provider} like
MTNL ,VSNL , Airtel ,DOCOMO etc.
MODEM
 A MODEM is a device that convert a
computer’s out going data to a format
that can be transferred via telephone
lines. Modem can also convert
incoming data so the computer can
read it. A modem can be located inside
or outside your computer. Some of the
different types of modems are internal,
external, voice/data, and fax modems.
SMTP
 {Simple Mail Transport Protocol }:
this protocol distributes e-mail
messages and attached files to one
or more electronic mailboxes.
HTTP
 The Hypertext transfer protocol
transmit hypertext over network.
This is the protocol of the web.
HTTP is the primary access maehod
used for interacting with internet.
This protocol is generally in
combination with WWW. It is
responsible for accessing hypertext
document on the world wide web.
