ABSTRACT
Social media is a platform that we use every day and spend much time
on them. Therefore, it is necessary to know the basic information about

purpose they are used and how they perceive the positive and negative
aspects of using social media. After analyzing the survey results, we’ve
identified the three most used social media and the opinion of social
media users on the advantages and disadvantages associated with their
use.
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Social media is growing rapidly and becoming a vital part of everyday
life, because of the latest technological revolution. This stunning
growth is due to the increasing usage of smart phones like
BlackBerrys, Androids and iPhones. These Smart phones make it easy
to access any social media platform from anywhere virtually. The
mobile versions of these social media sites are so easy to access made
it user friendly. As well as the Map services made a remarkable usage
through mobile to find direction and places easily. It could be noted
that all the online advertisement channels are into the social media
thing.
Theoretical framework
This chapter provides an overview of crisis communications and social
media theories, followed by a discussion and summary. The presented
theories are used as a foundation for discussion of empirical findings
presented within the research. The literature on crisis management is
fragmented, as people write about crises from very different
perspectives. To further this notion is the fact that the use of the
internet is evolving as a corporate communication tool but little is
known about the actual use of the internet in a crisis. This review of
theory examines research in the areas of crisis communications and
social media thereby providing direction as well as an overall
framework for the basis of this quantitative and qualitative study. Key
concepts are defined and background is provided to support the
research question.
