camber
 The camber is a measure of lateral main deck
curvature in naval architecture. The curve is
applied to a deck transversely, measured as
the height of deck at centreline above the
height of deck at side.
Rise of floor
 Rise of Floor (or Deadrise): The rise of the
bottom shell plating line above the base line.
This rise is measured at the line of moulded
beam
Tumble home
 the tumblehome is the narrowing of a ship's
hull with greater distance above the water-
line. Expressed more technically, it is present
when the beam at the uppermost deck is less
than the maximum beam of the vessel. The
opposite of tumblehome is flare.
Flare

 Flare is the angle at which a ship's hull plate

or planking departs from the vertical in an
outward direction with increasing height. A
flared hull typically has a deck area larger
than its cross-sectional area at the waterline.
Most vessels have some degree of flare above
the waterline. Advantages of hull flare can
include improvements in stability, splash and
wash suppression, and dockside utility
rake
 The rake of a ships prow measures the angle
at which the prow rises from the water (the
rake below water being called the bow rake).
A motorcycle or bicycle fork rake measures
the angle at which the forks are angled down
towards the ground.
sheer
The sheer is a measure of longitudinal main deck
curvature, in naval architecture. The sheer forward is
usually twice that of sheer aft. Increases in the rise
of the sheer forward and aft build volume into the
hull, and in turn increase its buoyancy forward and
aft, thereby keeping the ends from diving into an
oncoming wave and slowing the ship. In the early
days of sail, one discussed a hull's sheer in terms of
how much "Hang" it had. William Sutherland's The
Ship-builders Assistant (1711) covers this
information in more detail.
Ship principal dimension

Aft Perpendicular

 A perpendicular that is drawn to the waterline

at the point where the aft side of the rudder
post meet the summer load line.
Ship principal dimension

Forward perpendicular

The perpendicular that is drawn to the

waterline at the point where the forward side
of the stem meets the summer load line.

 distance between the forward and aft

perpendiculars measured along the summer

Length on water line ( LWL )

 The waterline length (originally Length

Waterline Length, abbreviated to LWL) is
the length of a ship or boat at the point
where it sits in the water. It excludes the
total length of the boat, such as features that
are out of the water.

length over-all (LOA)

 It is the total length from the foremost to the

aft most point of the vessel.

Moulded depth

 is the vertical distance measured from the top

of the keel to the top of the freeboard deck
beam at side. In wood and composite ships,
the distance is measured from the lower edge
of the keel rabbet

Moulded Breadth

 is the greatest breadth of the ship

measured from side to side outside the
frames but inside the shell plating

 Draught or DRAFT

The draft or draught of a ship's hull is the

vertical distance between the waterline and
the bottom of the hull, with the thickness of
the hull included;

Ballast tank is a double bottom, peak or
deep tank for the carriage of a water ballast.

Duct Keel - built of plates and angles in a box

form extending in the forward part of the
vessel built with a double bottom

Peak tanks are tanks at the bow or stern

end of the ship usually kept empty and dry
but sometimes used to carry potable water?
