as Staphylococcus aureus.
It was named as
staphylo- because it was
found in a grape like
clusters.

S. aureus was first recognized


by Alexander Ogston in
Aberdeen, Scotland in a pus of
a surgical swelling in the knee
joint.
Then later on, it was officially
named as Staphylococcus

In humans, S. aureus is a


component of normal
microbiota that can be found
on skin, gut mucosa, upper
respiratory tract and nose.
It can affect all mammal
species
