玉龙鞭

玉龙鞭,中药名。为马鞭草科植物假马鞭
Stachytarpheta jamaicensis (L.)Vahl.
的全草及根。分布于福建、广东、广西、
云南。

形态特征:
假马鞭,又名假败酱、大种马鞭草、假马鞭草。多年生粗壮
草本或亚灌木,高0.6-2米;幼枝近四方形,疏生短毛。叶片
厚纸质,椭圆形至卵状椭圆形,长2.4-8厘米,顶端短锐尖,
基部楔形,边缘有粗锯齿,两面均散生短毛,侧脉3-5,在背
面突起;叶柄长1-3厘米。穗状花序顶生,长11-29厘米;花单
生于苞腋内,一半嵌生于花序轴的凹穴中,螺旋状着生;苞片
边缘膜质,有纤毛,顶端有芒尖;花萼管状,膜质、透明、无
毛,长约6毫米;花冠深蓝紫色,长0.7-1.2厘米,内面上部有
毛,顶端5裂,裂片平展;雄蕊2,花丝短,花药2裂;花柱伸
出,柱头头状;子房无毛。果内藏于膜质的花萼内,成熟后2
瓣裂,每瓣有1种子。花期8月,果期9-12月。

分布于福建、广东、广西、云南。

1. 具有清热利湿,解毒消肿之功效。常用于热淋,
石淋,白浊,白带,风湿骨痛,急性结膜炎,
咽喉炎,牙龈炎,胆囊炎,痈疖,痔疮,跌打
肿痛。
2. 兴奋离体豚鼠回肠。
3. 扩张血管。

Stachytarpheta jamaicensis Is a species of plant in the
Verbenaceae family, native throughout the Caribbean.
It has many common names including blue
porterweed, blue snake weed, bastard vervain,
Brazilian tea, Jamaica vervain,and light-blue
snakeweed.It is unclear whether S. indica is a separate
species. It is usually found along country roadsides and
it grows also well as a ruderal plant on disturbed
terrain. It is an invasive species in some places.

Stachytarpheta jamaicensis is a well-branched ,
erect ,perenninal herbs growing up to 1 metre tall.
The stems become woody at the base.The Plant has
a wide range of medicinal uses and is often gathered
from the wild for local use.

Useage and potential:
Medicinal :
The fresh leaves are consumed in bush tea as a “cooling”
tonic and blood cleanser, to treat “asthma” and “ulcerated
stomachs”.Tea brewed from this species has been shown to
cause a dose-dependent "fall in [the] blood pressure" of
normal rabbits. However, the tea has also been observed to
cause a "mild non-dose dependent systematic toxicity" in
various tissues throughout the body, "such as congestion,
fatty changes, and necrosis in liver, blood vessels, kidney,
lung and testis, but the brain, eyes, intestines and heart were
essentially normal."

Useage and potential:
Medicinal :
The plant (part not specified) is employed in the
treatment of dyspepsia, ophthalmia, headaches,
bruises etc. It is also considered to be abortifacient
and is used as a repellent for intestinal worms
The roots are used internally to treat diarrhoea and
colic. The leaves are anthelmintic, digestive,
emmenagogue and sedative. They are used to treat
urinary complaints, dyspepsia and congestion of the
liver.

Medicinal :
The leaves and young shoots from the purple-black
wild species are squeezed into a cup, a pinch of salt
is added and the mixture taken to induce abortion
and remove the after birth. Applied externally, they
are used to treat swellings, smallpox and
ophthalmia. The fresh leaves are applied as a
poultice to bruises and contusions, and also to treat
headache. The young leaves are baked and
squeezed whilst hot onto fresh cuts and sores.
