ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AND

SOLUTIONS
BY: GROUP 1- BIOLOVERS
Then ( Before)
1. Illegal Mining

• Definition:
- is a mining activity that is undertaken without state of
permission, in absence of land rights and mining license
SOLUTION:
The company must have a permission of the government
especially if that place is protected by the government, and to
obtain permit to carry out activities in that area.
2. Dynamite Fishing

• Definition:
- is a practice of using hazardous thing to stun or kill fishes to
have an easy collection. By using this, the coral reefs is one of the
victim too because it supports the fishes.
SOLUTION:
Stop using dynamite or any other explosives in fishing and use
the traditional method of fishing by using nets.
3. Garbage problems

• DEFINITION:
- Garbage, trash, rubbish, or refuse is waste material that is
discarded by humans, usually due to perceived lack of utility.
According to scientists, this is the main cause of air pollution. The
smoke from the burning garbage not only poisons air. It also increase
the spread of disease. Moreover, Pollution runs into rivers and seeps
into the ground water. Flooding is caused by garbage clogging drains,
and the atmosphere can be poisoned by the toxic materials from the
trashes.
3. Garbage problems

• SOLUTION:
- In the Philippines, We implemented the Republic Act 9003;
Ecological Solid Waste Management, Where as we practice the right
segregation of trashes through Biodegradable, Non- Biodegradable,
and Recyclable. We also propose this 5 R’s; Reuse, Reduce, Recycle,
Repair, Recover.
4. DEFORESTATION

• DEFINITION:
- is the conversion of forested areas to non-forest land use
such as arable land, urban use, logged area or wasteland.
DEFORESTATION alters the hydrologic cycle, altering the amount of
water in the soil and groundwater and the moisture in the
atmosphere.
4. DEFORESTATION

• SOLUTIONS:
- PLANT MORE TREES AND HELP SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT
AND PRACTICE REFORESTATION.
NOW (AFTER)
1. WATER POLLUTION

• DEFINITION:
- According to BORJEN PROJECT, the Philippines is developing a
country that is also undergoing rapid urbanization and industrialization,
Out of more than 100,000,000 filipinos, 9,000,000 rely on unsafe water
supplies. In fact, water pollution in the Philippines and a lack of proper
sewage kills 55 people everyday.
1. WATER POLLUTION
• SOLUTION:
-Keep trash and chemicals out of storm drains, including pet
waste. Don’t throw paints, oils,or other forms of litter down the
drain. Use environmentally household products, such as washing
powder, household cleaning agents and toiletrioes. Take great care
not to overuse pesticides and fertilizers. This will prevent runoffs of
the material into nearby water sources.
2. AIR POLLUTION

• DEFINITION
-Occurs when harmful or excessive quantities of substances
including gases, particles, and biological molecules are introduced into
Earth’s atmosphere. It may causes diseases, allergies and even death to
humans; it may also cause harm to other living organisms such as
animals and food crops, and may damage the natural or built
environment. Both human activity and natural processes can generate
air pollution.
2. AIR POLLUTION

• SOLUTION:
- We must conserve energy and use efficient bulbs and
appliances. Stop burning and limit the use of polluter air from car
engines, and factories that can also be the one to cause and also
smoking.
3. Throwing Trashes that have Lead (Pb) and
Mercury (Hg) in waterways of San Francisco,
Agusan del Sur
MEANING:
- As we experienced, We all know that the municipality of
San Francisco, Agusan del Sur always experiencing flashflood
approximately, atleast once a month and by that the major
waterways in the municipality is polluted. Hence, These
waterways have a hazardous elements like Lead (Pb) and
Mercury (Hg). One of the reasons are we are close to minor and
major mining areas that can contribute to the problem.
3. Throwing Trashes that have Lead (Pb)
. and Mercury (Hg) in waterways of San
Francisco, Agusan del Sur

The “formalin” also can be one because it is used by the funeral

activities that are thrown in the waterways, and these waterways
have physicochemical characteristics like the terms of conductivity,
salinity, and total dissolved solids or TDS.
SOLUTION: Do not throw any hazardous materials or elements that
can contribute to our problems in our water resources and please
be discipline in throwing your wastes materials.
4. Manila Bay

• DEFINITION:
“ The Manila Bay area is the Philippines’ major center of
economic activity ranging from shipping, industrial, commercial,
fishing, aquaculture, etc. . The natural environment is facing threats
from different factors; over-population, illegal fishing, uncontrolled
development, decreasing resources. The effects of these problems
are the significant degredation of the ecosystems and biodiversity
thereby affecting the needs of all living things along the bay.”- said
PEMSEA Organization
4. Manila Bay

SOLUTIONS:
- Through the leadership of our beloved president,
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and all
the environmental organizations and youth councils and all the
estimated 5,000 workers and volunteers and reportedly collcted 11
truckloads of garbage finally after a long long years on JANUARY 27,
2019 the Manila Bay finally back with its beautiful sunset. It is now
called “THE MODERN BATTLE OF MANILA BAY” .
