ABSTRACT
• Significance of the Study
• The result of the study will be a great benefit to the following:
• Student-athletes. This study can benefit the student-athletes because it can help
them manage their time more in order to acknowledge their priorities.
• Faculties. This study can benefit them because it may help in the future planning of
performance tasks, outputs, tests, etc.
• Parents. This study can benefit the parents it can help show the effects of certain
activities towards their children.
• Sports Department. This study can benefit them because it can show them the
effects of training towards the student-athletes.
• Future Researcher. This study can benefit the future researchers because this
study may help their future studies.
• This study aims to determine the factors affecting the academic
performance of junior high school student-athletes in Bacolod Tay
Tung High School.
This will allow the researchers to be able to find out if there are
positive and negative factors that affect the academic performance of
the junior high school student-athletes. Furthermore, this study aims
to answer the following questions:

• What are the factors that affect the academic performance of junior
high school student-athletes in Bacolod Tay Tung High School?

• How do these factors affect the academic performance of junior high

school student-athletes in Bacolod Tay Tung High School?

• What is the percentage of student-athletes that have been affected by

these factors?
Introduction

• With the emergence of the K-12 Education in the Philippines today,

students are being expected to be able to communicate efficiently
and effectively to be at par with the other nations around us,
bringing us into the competitive market in the world of
globalization. With this, we are able to produce world class Filipino
professionals that would enable us to be on the same degree with
them in terms of physical, technical, social, and communicative
skills, hence the implementation of the Department of Education of
this curriculum that the Philippines uses today.
• As Bacolod Tay Tung High School bears the name of Filipino-
Chinese School, student-athletes are greatly recognized in every
school. They represent their respective schools with pride, along
with winning a lot of titles for themselves and the school. Bacolod
Tay Tung High School has student-athletes who are greatly known
for being skillful and integral in their respective sport. They give
pride and glory to the school, that is why the school provides them
with benefits like scholarships. The school also recruits student-
athletes from different parts of the island of Negros in order for
them to receive such benefits in a well-known institution.

• Although the student-athletes of Bacolod Tay Tung High School

excel greatly in sports, most of them have trouble in maintaining a
good academic performance. Student-athletes always have training
and competitions. Due to this, their academic performances are
being affected.
• There are many factors affecting the academic
performances of junior high school student-
athletes in Bacolod Tay Tung High School. The
physical and mental health aspects of the
student-athletes are being disturbed due to these
problems. The benefits that are given to them
are also being greatly affected by the numerous
clashing of scheduled competitions and
scheduled tests.
RELATED LITERATURE

• Societal Curriculum, a means to teach students

how to interact and empathize with one another. It
is how to ensure students feel good about
themselves and their relationships. When students
learn a social curriculum they are socially aware and
emotionally intelligent. They understand their
emotions as well as the emotions of others.(Kaitlin
Roig-DeBellis, 2014). In this study, the researchers
would be able to determine if the emotions, self-
esteem, and relationships of the junior high school
student-athletes of Bacolod Tay Tung High School
are factors that affect their academic performance.
• Hidden Curriculum, is based on the recognition that
students absorb lessons in school that may or may not be
part of the formal course of study—for example, how they
should interact with peers, teachers, and other adults;
how they should perceive different races, groups, or
classes of people; or what ideas and behaviors are
considered acceptable or unacceptable. The hidden
curriculum is described as “hidden” because it is usually
unacknowledged or unexamined by students, educators,
and the wider community(The Glossary of Education
Reform, 2015). In this study, the knowledge of the
knowledge and behaviors of the junior high school
student-athletes of Bacolod Tay Tung High School are to
be tested and determined.
• Social Learning Theory, theorized by Albert
Bandura, posits that people learn from one
another, via observation, imitation, and
modeling. The theory has often been called a
bridge between behaviorist and cognitive
learning theories because it encompasses
attention, memory, and motivation.People learn
through observing others’ behavior, attitudes,
and outcomes of those behaviors.
• 21st Century Learning Skills, means that
students master content while producing,
synthesizing, and evaluating information from a
wide variety of subjects and sources with an
understanding of and respect for diverse cultures.
In this study, the 21st century learning skills of the
junior high school student-athletes of Bacolod Tay
Tung High School are to be tested based on how
they handle training and studying.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS
• The scope of the study involves the number of student-
athletes needed for the study to be completed.
• The study will only focus on the junior high school
student-athletes of Bacolod Tay Tung High School. Each
batch of the junior high school department will only have
10 student-athletes to answer the survey provided. In the
end, we should have a total of 40 junior high school
student-athletes that answered the survey.
• The researchers will be providing questionnaires to
answer. The questions in the questionnaires involves
asking the amount of time the student-athletes spend on
training and studying during the week.
METHODOLOGY
RESULT
• Survey shows that the factors that affect the
performance of the athletes is time as well as
exhaustion.

Because of the time, they usually go home, 8:00 pm

which is not enough to study academically.

• Which results to the failure of passing quizzes and

tests that furthermore affect their grades.

28 out of 40 students noted this in the survey.

CONCLUSION
• The factors that affect the academic performance
of junior high school student-athletes of Bacolod
Tay Tung High School is time and exhaustion.
The effects of these factors to junior high school
student-athletes of Bacolod Tay Tung High
School can be determined. The percentage of
junior high school student-athletes in Bacolod
Tay Tung High School is about 70% of the
athletes.
