Background and Conceptual Framework of the study
A key to good decision making is to express these
values clearly, to create a set of alternatives that address
those values, and finally to choose the best one (Keeney,
1992).
It is important to look at the process used to
make a decision and determine whether that process
has the characteristics of good decision-making. It is
necessary to understand the process of individual
decision making.
When a situation comes to decide for an optional
way then the individual must concentrate on the good
decision rather than wavering. The fact is that people
with high range of emotions are tend to take good
decisions quickly.
There are different factors that affect the decision-
making of individuals. Factors may be positive and
helpful, or negative. It is important to know such factors
for an individual to be able to evaluate their decisions.
The figure 1 below shows the relation between the
student and factors affecting their decisions:

3. Did you choose BSMT because your skills are more likely to be applicable in this
profession it offers ahead?
(for BSMarE chosen course)
1. Did you choose BSMarE because it is a less-chosen maritime field?
2. Did you choose BSMarE because this is where you think your knowledge fits?

3. Did you choose BSMarE because your skills are more likely to be applicable in this
profession it offers ahead?
In conducting the study, the researchers followed 2
major steps:

Step 1: The researcher made a survey instrument that is

composed of a yes-or-no questions sought to find out
which reasons and factor under such aspect has the
great impact to the students of Iloilo Merchant Marine
School upon choosing a maritime course.
In conducting the study, the researchers followed 2
major steps:

Step 2: The researchers conducted a survey to the

students by distributing survey sheets on each and
every sections to reach the sample size of 99. The
students will be answering the survey forms during their
free time only, for a reason not to disturb any classroom
instructions.
Analysis of Data

To analyse the data gathered, the researchers

used the statistical technique to have a numerical
evident and basis. The numerical data will be analyse
using a software application which is Statistical Package
for Social Sciences or SPSS.
In order to have the needed results, the SPSS will
be set to Frequency analysis for the researchers to
clearly see which among aspects: Personal, school’s
efficiency, maritime profession awareness, and
suitability and practicability; has the greater impact and
that affects the decision-making of the students of Iloilo
Merchant Marine School.
