WHAT ARE
MICROORGANISMS?
An organism that comprises either
a single cell, or multicellular
organisms.The subject that began
with Anton van Leeuwenhoek’s
discovery of microorganisms in
1675, using a microscope of his
own design.
FUNGI
Fungi are like plants that are not
green.They do not have the
photosynthesis pigment chlorophyll.They
have no root stems or leaves but grow as
masses of protoplasm in dead or living
organic matter.There are about 100
000different fungi.Same like the yeasts are
single cells but most fungi grow as
branching tubes of protoplasmcalled
hyphae.Fungi contain chitin which is also
found in animal cells.A single organism is
called a fungus.
ALGAE

Algae are a type of living thing that

usually live in really wet enviroment ,
like the ocean. They are a little bit like
plants. They take energy from the sun
and use it to make food, just like
plants do! The difference between
algae and plants, is that plants have a
lot more distinct parts, like roots,
petals, and leaves.
PROTOZOA

Protozoa are tiny animals that feed

on bacteria and move through the
soil.When they beat bacteria, they
help release nurients for plants to
use. Some live termite guts and help
digest wood fibers.
BACTERIA

Bacterias are organisms made of just one

cell. They are capable of multiplying by
themselves, as they have the power to
divide.Bacteria exist everwhere, inside
and on our bodies. Most of them are
completely harmless and some of them
are very useful. But some bacteria can
cause deseases, either because they end
up in the wrong place in the body or
simply because the are designed to invade
us.
VIRUS

Viruses are too small to be seen by the naked

eye. They cannot multiply on their own, so
they have to invade a host cell and take over
its machinery in order to be able to make
more virus particals.Viruses consist of
genetic materials (DNA or RNA) surrounded
by a protective coat of protein. They are
capable of latcing onto cells and getting inside
them. The cells of the mucous membranes,
such as those lining the respiratory passages
that we breathe through, are particularly
open to virus attacks because they are not
covered by protective skin.
