Anti-Bullying Law, Recoupment and

Factors Affecting the Condition of

Senior High GAS Students in School

Inquiries, Investigation and Immersion

Introduction
• Bullying is an open wound to a
victim’s life, where he or she can feel
it hurts because of the pain it left.
• Bullying has many types which
include physical bullying, verbal
bullying, cyber-bullying and social
bullying
• There are many factors in life that may
be affected by bullying, which include
the academic performance of a student,
his or her behaviour and socialization
to the other people.
• . Bullying might cause the victim to have a
trauma about it, but there are different ways
to cope up with it. Bullying is a very old
phenomenon within a country, thus
government enacted a law preventing any
forms of bullying within a society.
• According to Nansel et al. 2001, “Bullying is a
specific type of aggression in which the
behaviors occurs repeatedly over time and there
is an imbalance of power, with the more powerful
person or group attacking a less powerful one.
This asymmetry of power maybe physical or
psychological and aggressive behavior maybe
verbal (e.g name-calling, threats), physical (e.g
hitting), or psychological”.
• According to the article entitled Positive Coping
Mechanism for Children, “Children also need to cope
with stress and anxiety. Academic pressures, social
pressure, bullying, problems at home, abuse are all
pressures that children may face daily. Children in
particular are much more likely to run away from the
thing that is causing them stress. Sometimes they can
be helpful, like if a child removes himself from a
dangerous situation. Giving the child stress is on-
going like abuse in the home or bullying in school”.
.
• According to the Anti-Bullying Law
Republic Act No. 10627 or known as the
Anti-Bullying Act of 2013, “For purposes of
this act, bullying shall refer to any severe or
repeated use by one or more students of a
written, verbal, physical act, gesture, or any
combination thereof”.
• If there is a law, there is a punishment. According
to Dorris Bigornia from a report, once the
President signs the Anti-Bullying Act into law,
bullies can be suspended or kicked out of school.
Moreover, imprisonment for six months to six
years and paying penalty from 50,000 to 100,000
are also include in the punishment of bullying.
• This paper focuses on Anti-Bullying Law in the
Philippines which include Republic Act No.
10627 known as Anti-Bullying Act of 2013 and
its punishment such as penalty and
imprisonment, recoupment or coping up
mechanism of every students, and factors
affecting the condition of bullied students in
school which includes academic performance,
behavior and socialization with other people.
Statement of the Problem
• The purpose of this study is to identify the Anti-Bullying
Laws, Recoupment and Factors Affecting Condition of
Bullied Senior High GAS students in School.
1. What are the factors that affects the condition of bullied
students in terms of;
1.1 Academic Performance
1.2 Behaviour
1.3 Socialization
2. How did bullied students overcome the bullying?
3. How familiar are the students to the different Anti-
Bullying Laws in the Philippines?
Scope and Delimitation
• The researchers are intended to conduct a survey within four (4)
months among the fifty (50) bullied Senior High GAS students in
Basa Air Base National High School.
• . The study includes the different Anti-Bullying laws in the
Philippines, types of bullying; cyber bullying, physical bullying,
verbal bullying, and social bullying, coping up mechanism of
every bullied students and the factors affecting the condition of
victims in school such as academic performance, behavior, and
socialization.
• However, life status, gender, religion, sexual harassment, cyber
threats, cyber stalking, and impersonation are not included in the
study.
Significance of The Study
• The said study will be beneficial to the following;

To the students,
• will gain information about the factors affecting
the condition of bullied students in school in
form of academic performance, behavior and
socialization with other people.
To the parents,
• they will notice the behaviors of their children once
they are bullied, like being sensitive, alone, silent or
always quiet and being non-sociable person to
others.

To the researchers,
• they will know the factors affecting the bullied
condition and ways to cope up from bullying.
• They will also be aware to the different Anti-
Bullying Laws like Anti Bullying Act of 2013 and
Child Protection Policy where it helps promoting
bullying awareness among Filipino Society and
keeping students safe in the learning environment.
To the future researchers,
• They will know how to gather data and they can
use it for their up-coming thesis in college.
• They will gain more information that will be used
in revising their research paper that can add more
inclusions and exclusions of the said study.

Review Related of Literature
LOCAL

Bullying in the Philippines can take on a number of forms to

include peer bullying, gender discrimination, physical
violence, public ridicule, sexual harassment and psychological
abuse. When it comes to tackling bullying issues, Luistro feels
that “Bullying and other forms of violence in schools should
be viewed not just as a school problem but as a societal
problem as well” (Armin Luistro, 2017).
• The Philippines has Anti-Bullying Legislation in
Filipino schools including Anti-Bullying Act of
2013
• According to psychiatrist (Dr. Genuina Ramoy,
2013) who is a specialist in child psychiatry, she
said that once a parent suspects that a child is
being bullied, there are several things to do to help
the child. The usual advice that the child should
tell school authorities is not necessarily always the
best solution.
• Moreover, bullying is deemed as a serious problem in
academic settings in all parts of the world. They found
that bullying has negative impact on academic
performance. Females were more affected than males by
bullying (Shahria, 2015).

• Based on the quoted word, bullying is a societal problem.

It has many types where it can lead to different results.
This paper focuses on the Anti-Bullying Laws,
recoupment, and Factors Affecting Condition of Bullied
Senior High GAS students in School.
• FOREIGN

“Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged

children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The
behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.
Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious,
lasting problems.” (un-known author)

Bullying is an act where the victim’s education can implicate it.

Therefore, situation makes bullied students unable to follow or to

pay attention for their study well and even they might do not like
to go in school. Moreover, they miss the opportunities to
participate with their colloquies or even enjoy school activities.
• In additional, CPI defines bullying (2011) as being
characterized by intentionally aggressive behavior that
involves an imbalance of power and strength. It can be
exemplified through physical, verbal/nonverbal, and/or
relational means. However, according to federal
government website “All kids involved in bullying—
whether they are bullied, bully others, or see bullying—
can be affected. It is important to support all kids involved
to make sure the bullying doesn’t continue and effects can
be minimized”.
• Therefore, bullying is an old phenomenon that can cause
various effects to someone’s life than can lead to them to
hate school.
CHAPTER 2 : METHODOLOGY

• Research Design - Descriptive design is utilized to gather

data in the study. It aims to gather more information about a
particular field with a certain characteristic of the
respondents. It also used to determine the direction of
attitudes and behaviors of the respondents when a certain
situation naturally happens.
• Locale - The study was conducted in Basa Air Base
National High School because it is the nearest and very
accessible place to fulfill the needed data of the research
paper. The said school is located inside Basa Air Base and
it has a total population of 305 Senior High GAS students.
• Respondents - The respondents of the study were the
grade eleven (11) and twelve (12) of General Academic
Strand. The grade eleven (11) GAS students have a
total population of 201 while the grade twelve (12) has
104. The respondents of the researchers are fifty (50)
who experienced bullying.

• Slovin’s formula - is used to compute for sample size

of the researcher’s respondents. This formula is used
when you have limited information about the
characteristics of the population and are using a non-
probability sampling procedure. (Ellen, 2016)

• INSTRUMENT - Survey and questionnaires are the
instruments that were utilized to gather relevant information to
the respondents to fulfil the study.
• DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE - The researchers
conducted a research study by the use of survey and
questionnaires that were being given to the target respondents.
The researchers wrote a permission letter to the principal and to
their subject teacher to let the researchers conduct 180a survey
to the target students and a letter for respondents so that they
will not doubt the intent of the research study. The researchers
passed and wait for the approval of principal and their subject
teacher and asked permission to the bullied students to survey
them. Moreover, the researchers conducted a survey within the
respondents, collected data and lastly, interpreted the said data.
• ETHICAL CONSIDERATION - Adequate level of
confidentiality of the research data has been ensured by the
researchers. Any type of communication in relation to the
research study was done with honesty and transparency. The
researchers avoided any deception or exaggeration about 190 the
aims and objectives of the study. In additional, prioritizing the
dignity of participants, the protection of their privacy and
anonymity of individuals or organizations participating in the
research study is ensured by the researchers.
• STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA - The questionnaires
that were being answered by the researchers were statistically
analyzed by the researchers. The range for the descriptive rating
started at 0.1 to 5.5 above which is arranged by lowest to highest.
0.1 means Strongly Disagree (SD) and Very Not Familiar (VNF)
while 5.5 means Strongly Agree (SA) and Very Familiar (VF).
CHAPTER 3 : RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

This chapter contains the result and

analysis of data collection according to the
conducted survey about Anti-Bullying
Laws, Recoupment and Factors Affecting
Condition of Bullied Senior High GAS
students in Basa Air Base National High
School.

Table 3.5 shows the frequency of each bullied students who answered the

questions in table 3.5.1.While the chart 1 represents the rate of the respondent’s answers.

The blue bar indicates ‘yes’ and the red bar means ‘no’. Based on the respondent’s

answers, the highest frequency responding ‘yes’ is forty-five (45), which they become

friendly after recovering from bullying.Second highest frequency is forty-three (43),

meaning that victims of bullying still initiated conversation with others. While the lowest

frequency responding ‘yes’ is thirty-one (31), which they still accepted the friend request

of their bullied classmates on facebook. Second lowest frequency is thirty-eight (38),

where the bullied students can still stand theirselves in front of many people in spite of

bullying. Moreover, the highest frequency responding ‘no’ is nineteen (19), which it

refers not to accept the friend request of their bullied classmates on facebook. Second

highest frequency is twelve (12), meaning they cannot stand theirselves in front of many

people because of bullying. While the lowest frequency responding ‘no’ is five (5),

meaning that the bullied students did not become friendly after recovering from

bullying. In additional, the second lowest frequency is seven (7), where the bullied

students cannot initiate conversation with others because they are known to be a victim of

bullying.
CHAPTER 4 : SUMMARY, CONCLUSION &
RECOMMENDATION

SUMMARY
• Based on the analysis of results in the study, the
researchers provide the summary of findings and
overall conclusion of the personal experiences of the
bullied grade 11 and 12 students under General
Academic Strand.
RECOMMENDATION
• Upon the gathered data, the researchers would like to suggest the
following recommendations;

To the bullied students

• confidence is the key to conquer bullying because if they are
proud or confident about their selves, they won’t get affected to
what other negatively say about them.
• Not listening to what other people might say about them is
also good. There will always be people who will hate them even
though they have done nothing wrong and will criticize them but
these things must be taken positively in order for them to live
happy.
• Inspiring and motivating their selves to prove other people
wrong on what they think about them might also be a good thing
in order for the bullied students boost their self-confidence.
To the bully students
• being bully is not a good thing.
• They might think they are cool because there are
students who are afraid of them but they can never
erase the fact that bullies will always be losers.
• Start making a change of their own selves because
bullying someone is not a joke.
• Avoiding with bad influence friends will lessen
them in bullying someone. Being nice, friendly and a
loveable person is indeed the right thing to do.
To the parents
• having an open communication with their children
is very important for them to know the everyday
experiences of their children in school.
• If their children encountered bullying, they can
remind them what to properly do with it.
• On the other side, if their child is a bully, they can
stop them in bullying someone by telling them what
are the possible serious effects of it.
To the teachers
• saving their students life from bullying is very
monumental. Never-the-less the fact that there are
still some things that they cannot stop from
happening. Thus, encouraging and motivating
their bullied students is very inspiring thing, in
order for the bullied students ease the pain that they
are feeling and for them to strengthen their selves.
• In additional, every teacher has a right to prevent
unnecessary actions that may appear in the children
learning environment.
For the future researchers
• be an instrument in raising the student’s
awareness about the different types of bullying and
be a light in ending the misinterpretation of the
different scenario of bullying.
• In addition, introduce new ways for better
understanding of bullying.
• The researchers should also consider suggesting,
improving and revising the conducted research
study. Ethical consideration is very important
especially for having a sensitive topic.
 CONCLUSION
The researchers conducted a research study entitled, “Anti-Bullying Laws,
Recoupment, Factors Affecting the Condition of Bullied Senior High GAS
Students in School.” Their respondents were the grade 11 and grade 12 students
under General Academic Strand of Basa Air Base National High School. The said
school has a total population of 305 GAS students. Bullying is an old phenomenon
but it is always done nowadays by numerous students. Bullying has many types
which include; physical bullying, cyber bullying, social bullying and verbal
bullying. Physical bullying is done physically, cyberbullying is done through
internet, social bullying is done within a group of people and verbal bullying is
done with words. There are many factors that can be affected in bullied student’s
life especially when it comes to academic performance, behavior and socialization
with other people. But most of the bullied students, they still manage to have good
grades and they can still socialize with other people despite of the bullying they
experienced. Both government in the Philippines and in the other country has
implemented law against bullying that can keep every individual’s safe in their
environment. Moreover, most bullied students used to encourage their selves to
stay calm from bullying but they did not really choose to make their selves busy
instead of thinking their dark past. To sum it up, the researchers conclude that
bullying can still have an ending if there are people who are willing to put a point
to it. Bullying will always be connected with pain in a victim’s life but there are
always be solutions to overcome it.
