WHAT IS NAIL?
 Nailis a plate of keratin that lies on the
tips of the fingers and toes. The main
purpose of the nail is to protect the fingers
and toes. However, the fingernail also
assists with certain physical activities in
daily life.
NAIL FACTS

 Fingernails grow faster than our toenails

 Fingernails grow 3.55 mm/month while toenails grow an average of
1.6 mm/month
 Women’s nails grow more slowly compared to men
 Nail growth rates depend on age, time of year, activity level, and
heredity
 Nail growth is affected by disease, nutrition, medication, trauma,
chronic illness, fever and the aging process.
NAILS OFTEN REFLECT OUR GENERAL
STATE OF HEALTH
 Changes in the nail, such as discoloration or thickening, can signal health
problems, including liver and kidney diseases, heart and lung conditions,
anemia, and diabetes
 Symptoms that could signal nail problems include changes in color, shape,
and/or thickness, swelling of the skin around the nails, bleeding or discharge,
and pain
 Fungal infections cause about half of all nail disorders. They are more
common in toenails because the toes often are confined to a warm, moist,
weight-bearing environment.
NAIL CARE

 Refers to the proper maintenance of the fingernails and toenails

 Nail care is important because it helps prevent nail problems, such as fungal
nail infections and ingrown toenails. However, in some cases, nail problems
are symptoms of an underlying medical condition, such as an infection
throughout the body.
 Nails are considered healthy if they are smooth and uniform in color and
consistency. Healthy nails do not have ridges or grooves, and they do not have
spots or discoloration
 In order to maintain healthy nails, it is recommended that individuals keep
the nails clean, trimmed, and moisturized.

NAIL SHAPES

And how to choose the one for

you
ROUND NAILS

Ideal for the ones who

have weak nails and like
to keep them short.
SQUARE NAILS

This shape actually

draws attention to the
hands it looks best on
medium and long nails.
SQUOVAL NAILS

This is what you get when you

combine the good features of
the two shapes square and oval.
If you are dedicated fan of square
nails
your try this one- it cant hurt and it
can reduce chipping significantly.
POINTY/STILETTO/MOUNTAIN'S PEAK NAILS

This is something you won't able to do

at home, unless you have acrylic or UV gel
manicure set. The shape is quite weak
on its own and it won't last very long
on natural nails.
ALMOND NAILS

 Almond shape nails are

one of the most popular
nail shapes because they
are great for people who
have longer nails and they
are super flattering on all
hand sizes.
OVAL NAILS

 Oval nails combine all positive

elements of almond,square,
and rounded shape so they are
both strong and good-looking.
They are durable like round
nails, look great on both
medium and long nails like
square ones and enhance the
feminine appearance of the
wearer, similar to almond
shape.
BALLERINA/COFFIN

 Ballerina or coffin shaped nails

are very similar to sqaure
shaped nails, except with the
ballerina nail the edges of your
nail are much longer and there
is more of an inwards curve
towards the flattened top. This
nail shape is easier to achieve
with longer nails, and many
celebrities like Kylie Jenner
have been seen rocking this nail
shape.

TYPES OF NAIL POLISH FINISHES
 CREME
 HOLO GLITTER
 TEXTURED  JELLY

 FROST  SHIMMER
 PEARL  GLASS FLECKERED
 IRIDESCENT  FOIL
 CAVIAR  CHROME OR METALLIC
 VELVET
 NEON
 DOUCHROME
 MATTE
 SHEER
 SATIN
 SHATTER
 HOLOGRAPHIC  SUEDE

 GLITTER  FLAKIE
CREME

 A creme is one of the

most popular finishes we
know. This is just a plain
color without any glitter,
shimmer, etc. added to it.
The finish is glossy adn
smooth.
JELLY

 A type of finish that

has a squishly
appearance and sheer
application. It's just
like creme, but
extremely glossy.
SHIMMER

 The shimmer finish is a

colored base with
shimmer added to it, most
of the times that color is
silver but we're seeing
contrasting color more
often
 A creme base with tons of
tiny. micro glitters, a.k.a.
shimmer
GLASS FLECKERED

Glass fleckered polishes look

like they contain small glass
particles, often mixed in a
jelly base. The finish is very
smooth, yet sparkly.
FOIL

 Foil polishes often have a

metallic base color with very
fine glitter added to it. The
finish is very smooth yet
sparkly.
 Metallics typically come in
the actual colors and
metals-gold, silver,bronze,
etc. and do not contain
glitter, whereas foils come in
many shades and have extra
shimmer added.
CHROME OR METALLIC

 Has a chrome/metallic
finish. While this type of
finish can look super nice
on the nail, it can apply
annoyingly streaky.
 Similar with foil but it has
bigger sparkly finish.
NEON

You could say neon

describes color, not
finish. But most neons
do have a particular
finish, very bright colors
that often dry semi-
matte.
MATTE

This finish dries completely

matte, no shine whatsoever.
These dry quickly and
sometimes end up being
streaky. Hand lotion is to be
avoided because it
decreases the matte effect.
SATIN

Satin finishes end up

matte as well, but not
entirely matte. There is
still a slight shine, but
not enough to classify it
as glossy.
SUEDE

Suede finish is matte's

slightly more shimmery
cousin. Suedes are just
like mattes with one
exception: the inclusion
of shimmer, which gives
you nails a smooth.
luxurious look.
FLAKIE

 Irregularly shaped flakes that

are generally thinner and wider
than glitter. Thay can come in
the following finishes.
 Opal/Iridescent- these tend to
be translucent and can have
douchrome properties. They
look best layered over another
color, especially dark colors.
 Multichrome- these are opaque
with multichrome properties.
These can be worn alone or
layered over another color.
GLITTER

 Certainly the boldest and

flashiest of all the nail polish
finishes, glitter is also super
popular and trendy right now.
 Different polishes may contain
multi-colored glitter, two-toned
glitter, or just one color of glitter
in a single bottle.
 These glitters are often put in a
jelly base. The amount of glitter
can vary a lot. Sometimes you'll
need top coat to smoothen the
surface.
TYPES OF GLITTER POLISH FINISH:

 STRING GLITTER
 ROUND GLITTER
 SQUARE GLITTER
 HEX GLITTER
 SHAPE GLITTER
HOLOGRAPHIC

Holographic nail
lacquers contain
rainbow colored glitter,
which changes color on
the reflection of light
THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBE THE HOLO EFFECT
IN TERMS OF STRENGTH AND SCATTER:
 Subtle/scattered. This finish has holographic
shimmer scattered throughout the color. These is
either no defined linearring or the effect is subtle-
lending the color a bit of sparkle.
 Linear. Has defined linear holo rings. Direct sunlight
will offer the strongest prismatic effect, but strong
linear holos will also look holographic in indoor
lighting.
 Scattered-linear. Between linear and scattered. A
prismatic ring is visible in direct sunlight or strong
lightning, but it is less defined than our strong
linears. This finish is not holographic indoors or in
indirect lightning- it will look like a
shimmer/metallic color in said lighting conditions.
 Multichrome/Duochrome Holo. Hybrid finish that
has both multichromatic/duochromatic properties as
well as a prismatic effect. There is a shift in color
based on the reflection of light and a prismatic
effect.
HOLO GLITTER

Holographic glitter in a
different color base,
there is no rainbow
effect to be seen.
TEXTURED

Textured polish dries

gritty and grainy, and
usually has lots of
sparkle in it to catch
the light

Can be worn with or without top coat. it

dries quickly.
FROST

A frost is a very fine

shimmery polish with
obvious bruststrokes.
These kind of finishes
are losing popularity and
mostly seen in older
polishes.
PEARL

Quite similar to frost

finish, but has pearly
sheen to it, again can
be seen in older
polishes.
IRIDESCENT

This finish is often

confused with
duochrome or shimmer.
An iridescent finish is a
color that flashes a
different color. These
are not obvious enough
to be a duochrome.
CAVIAR

Caviar- name tells for

itself, finish is achieved
due to small beads
applied onto sticky base
coat.
VELVET

 Velvet-it's not as
smooth as it
sounds. Look
more like fury
nails.
DUOCHROME

These formulations
are filled with very
fine shimmer and
depending how the
light hits them, can
appear as two
completely different
colors.
SHEER

Sheer- it's a half transparent

finish, often used in French
manicures. Many of sheers
are salmon, nude or pink,
which considered to be
office colors.
SHATTER

Your nails look as

though the color
was painted on a
black base that
cracked and broke.
PEDICURE

 An artful care for the

feet snd toenails.
GENERAL FOOR CARE

The human foot is biological

masterpiece. But subject to many
ills. It's strong, flexible, and
functional design enables it to do
its job weel and without
complaint- if you take care of it
and don't take it for granted.
TONS OF PRESSURE

An average day of walking, for

example, brings a force equal to
several hundred tons to bear on
the feet. This helps explain why
your feet are more subject to
injury than any other part of your
body.

NAIL FUNGUS (Toenail)

 Toenail fungus, or onychomycosis, is a

slow-growing infection of the nail and
skin beneath it. It is usually caused by
the same type of fungi that causes
athlete's foot; in fact, people who are
prone to athlete's foot may also
susceptible to toenail fungal infecions.
NAIL FUNGUS CHARACTERISTICS

 discoloration of the nail (yellow,

white, and brown or black)
 thick and painful nails that are
very difficult if not impossible to
cut
 flakey nails that will break easily
 discoloration and darkening of the
skin around tha nails (often looking
dirty or bruised)
 lifting of the nail from the nail
bed.
TOP TEN FOOT HEALTH TIPS

 Don't ignore foot pain - it's not normal. If the pain persists, see a podiatric
physician
 Inspect your feet regularly. Pay attention to changes lor and temperature of
your feet. Look for thick or discolored nails (a sign of developng fungus), and
check for cracks or cuts in the skin. Peeling or scaling on the soles of feet
could indicate athlete's foot. Any growth on the foot is not considered normal.
 Wash your feet regularly, especially between the toes, and be sure to dry
them completely.
 Trim toenails straight across, but not too short. Be careful not to cut nails in
corners or on the sides; it can lead to ingrown toenails. Persons with diabetes,
poor circulation, or heart problems should not treat their own feet because
they are more prone to infection.
 Make sure that your shoes fit properly. Purchase new shoes later in
the day when feet tend to be at their largest and replace worn out
shoes as soon as possible.
 Select adn wear the right shoe for the activity that you are engaged
in.
 Alternate shoes - don't wear the same pair of shoes everyday
 Avoid walking barefooted - your feet will be more prone to injury and
infection. At the beach or when wearing sandals, always use sunblack
on your feet just as on the rest of your body.
 Be cautious when using home remedies for foot ailments; self-
treatment can often turn a minor problem into a major problem.
 If you are a person with diabetes, it is vital that you see podiatric
physician at least once a year for a check-up.
