PROBLEM WITH THE INDUSTRY
Catering industry devotes a considerable amount of
resources and effort to manage waste properly. Waste Frying
oil is one such factor in India, which is dumped in water
bodies and also the continuous reuse of oil is carcinogenic
and hence there arises a need to reprocess them.

India produces around 9.2 million tonnes

of waste cooking oil in a year.

SOLUTION TO THE ISSUE
One way to do this is to recycle the used cooking oil into
biodiesel, which can be used to fuel from miniscule
households to monstrous
OPEN vehicles. It works a Pay to
treat and it’s great for the environment too! use

APPROACH

METHODOLOGY
• Calculation of Acid number of Waste Cooking Oil and Acid
Correction of the Oil.
• Fabrication of nano catalysts.
• Analyze the nano catalysts particles
(BET, XRD)
• Production of Biodiesel form the Cooking
Oil through Transesterification process.
• Washing and Drying of Biodiesel.
• Perform Fuel Characteristic test for oil.

MAIN PRODUCT: FUEL (BIODIESEL)

BI-PRODUCT: GLYCERIN

NANO CATALYST PREPARATION
• 10 gms citric acid was added in 100 ml of distilled water
• 15 gms of hydrated ferric chloride was thoroughly mixed
into the citric acid solution
• The solution was heated and stirred continuously till 80-
90% of water was evaporated.
• Calcination of the above obtained solution
Was done at 500°C.
• Last step was to grind the particles in granite
mortar.

NOVEL ADDITION
The use of Ferric Oxide nanoparticle as a catalyst in a
Homogeneous environment is the novel addition to get a
much higher yield of biodiesel from the reactive distillation
process.

FUEL – TARGET MARKET
• The main target is the big restaurant chains, who can instead of
dumping their waste cooking oil, can use it a fuel. A great
addition to their CSR points.

• Another target would be running food trucks on this special

biodiesel. This would be really good for the environment
as it is the equivalent in terms of carbon emissions
savings of taking 2,500 cars off the road each year.

KEY RISKS
• Market of Oil (Dependency and it’s competency with Diesel and
Petrol)

• Changes in Engine (Automotive Design)

• Market of automotive industry (If the market is

good then only companies would risk making
changes in automotive designs)

• Regression Cost Analysis for Economic Challenges.
