INTRODUCTION

 Electricity, properly harnessed and controlled, is one of a single most

beneficial discoveries known to man. It has become almost as much part of

our everyday life as breathing. We live with it and enjoy its many

advantages everyday.

 Electricity has become an essential part of our everyday life. In fact it makes

our world possible.

2
INTRODUCTION …continued

Electricity is so much an integral part our lives that many times we tend to

ignore its dangers

If abused or carelessly handled it could be one of natures deadliest forces.

It is therefore very important that we recognize the hazards associated with the

use of electricity and to take adequate measures to eliminate or control them in

order for us to continue to enjoy its enormous benefits.

3
There are four main types of injuries resulting

from electricity:-

 Electric Shock

 Burns

 Falls

 Electrocution

4
What Are The Hazards?

The hazards associated with electricity are mainly traceable to human errors or

negligence; leading to injury to human beings and/or damage to property and

loss of production.

The injury to human could range from mere tingling of part of body to severe

burns and in some cases, fatality.

5
6
Some materials support the flow of electricity through them, while others resist the

flow.

Those that allow flow of electricity are called conductors and those that do not are

called insulators

The human body is a good conductor of electricity and so when a person touches a

live wire current will flow through the body to earth. This current flow causes an

undesirable sensation to the body and may even result in fatality.

7
This unhealthy sensation is called ELECTRIC SHOCK

Also, when electric fault in an electrical circuit persists, it could lead to equipment

damage, there could be fire and if not controlled the whole building or facility may

burn down.

It is therefore of extreme importance that we identify the causes of these faults and

deliberate on methods of preventing, eliminating or controlling them.

8
Causes
 Lack of adherence to safety Rules and Regulations

 Non existence of properly

articulated procedure

 Poor house keeping

 Use of wrong tools

 Use of defective equipment

 Use of unqualified and untrained workers for

electrical jobs

 Non use of appropriate PPE

 Over inquisitive children
