NARRATIVE WRITING
Any kind of writing that tells a story Categories
1. Fiction - based on imaginative events or stories
that did not actually happened
2. Non-Fiction - based on facts
CHARACTERISTICS
1. Characters - the people or subjects of the story
Protagonist - central character of the story ; hero or
heroine
Antagonist - a character who opposes the protagonist
CHARACTERISTICS
3. Climax
The turning point; the
point of greatest
suspense or action. 4. Falling action
2. Rising action
Action and events that

occur after the climax.

First Person -the narrator(person who is telling the story)is
a character in the story ; using the pronouns Me, My, and I
 Third Person - the narrator is outside of the story.

NARRATIVE WRITING
1. Novels - more lengthy and can be divided into chapters or
sections. Ex. Harry Potter and the Pride and Prejudice
2. Short Stories - similar to novels but much shorter in
length.
Ex. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and The Tell-Tale Heart
3. Comics - short stories broken up into episodes with
graphics or pictures

4. Plays and Musicals - written as dialogues and usually
broken up into acts and designed to be performed in an
audience.
Ex. Romeo and Juliet or any other Shakespeare plays
5. Narrative Poetry - any poem that tells a story. * Epic Poems
- long narrative poems detailing adventure and heroic quests.
Ex. Paradise Lost, The Divine Comedy and The Odyssey
