MANAGEMENT PLANNING

By NURU A.
2
INTRODUCTION (ISO)

• The International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

developed by American National Standards Institute
(ANSI) & American Society for Quality Control (ASQC)

Made up of national and international

standard institutes from all regions of
the world countries and develops
voluntary technical standards, which add
value to all types of business operations.

3
Basically international standards promote
international trade between countries easier
and fairer by providing one consistent set of
requirements recognized around the word

and
make the development,
manufacturing and supply of
products & services more
efficient, safer and cleaner.
4
ISO which have the national standard
bodies of 90 countries also serve to…..

Safeguard consumers and users in

general, of products and services

ISO develops only those standards for

which there is a market requirement

5
The global economy would not exist
Without quality programs because quality
programs have been so effective in driving
down costs and increasing competitiveness.

Companies without quality

programs are at risk.so this will
enforce us to deal about ISO9000.

6
ISO 9000 – International Standard

A family of standards and

guidelines, related to QMS &
designed to help organizations ensure
that they meet the needs of
customers and other stakeholders
while meeting statutory (legal) and
regulatory requirements.

7
8
Features of ISO 9000
ISO9000 and ANSI / 1994 facilitate the selection and
use of the following two groups of standards

Internal quality assurance: - Activities aimed at

providing evidence that the intended quality
being achieved.

External quality assurance: - Activities aimed at

providing confidence to the purchaser that the
vendor’s quality system will satisfy the
purchaser’s stated quality requirement.
9
ISO 9000 Series

• The emphasis on customer satisfaction

and continuous quality improvement has
necessitated a system of standards and
guidelines that support the quality
philosophy.
• To address this need, the International
Standards Organization (ISO) developed a set
of 5 standards, ISO9000---9004.

10
ISO 9000 Explains fundamental quality concepts & provides
guidelines for the selection & application of each standard

ISO 9001 Model for quality assurance in design,

development, production, installation and servicing.

ISO 9002 Model for quality assurance in the

production & installation of manufacturing systems.

ISO 9003 Quality assurance in final inspection & testing

ISO 9004 Guideline for the application of standards in

quality management & quality systems.

11
• ISO 9001-9003 are
used for External
quality assurance
that purposes in
contractual
situations.
ISO 9000 and ISO 9004 are
guidance standards for internal
quality AND describe what is
necessary to accomplish the
requirements outlined in 9001,
9002 or 9003.
12
ISO construction

The goal of every construction

organization must be to establish a
quality system that consistently
meets or exceeds all the
customers' requirements and
focuses on continuous quality and
productivity improvement.

13
A construction business needs to be
certified in order to operate legally and
successfully.
Without certification, an individual or
corporation will have limited
opportunities for succeeding in the
construction industry.
14
There are several certifications that a company can
apply for. The first of which is the registered
merchant certificate

In New Jersey, this is called the Business

Registration Certificate, which a contractor need
to do business

In Florida, the state does not require all construction work

to be certified. Construction works that do not need
certification include flooring, paint, window treatments etc

Certification for major construction work can be

obtained by passing a state examination
15
• Implementing an ISO 9000-compliant quality
system is the essential first step that the
Companies must take to make sure its quality
objectives are realized.
• But ISO 9000 registration is not the end of
the quest for world-class quality.

Moreover, an ISO certification means that

the company is not only efficient but also
has a risk mitigation plan.
16
Suitability of ISO 9000 and TQM

The aim of ISO 9000 is to enable

organizations to better serve their customers
and be more competitive in the market place by
adhering to quality management principles
whereas total Quality came from Japan as a way
for them to compete in the international
marketplace.

17
Comparative of ISO 9000 Vs TQM

ISO 9000 and TQM not interchangeable

ISO 9000 is compatible with and is viewed as a subset of TQM
ISO 9000 can be implemented in an non-TQM environment
ISO 9000 can improve operations of traditional environment
ISO 9000 may be redundant in a mature TQM system
ISO 9000 and TQM are not in competition

18
reasons (enthusiasms) for implementing ISO 9000

To improve operations
To improve / create a QMS
