PROJECT PROPOSAL
SRA Based Reading Enrichment
Program:
A Five-Week Intensive Reading
Summer Program for the students of
the City College of San Fernando.

•AccordingtotheresultsoftheEPT,
majorityofthestudentsoftheCity
CollegeofSanFernandoareModerately
Proficient(70%–79%).
•The City College Management particularly its Interim President, did
not take these findings sitting down. He tasked the authors of this
program to come up with an intensive summer program that will
address this problem. Something must be done to help the Fernandino
scholars, in order for them to cope with academic challenges and
eventually make them competent in the professional world.

•The SRA Based Reading Enrichment Program is an attempt in


addressing the deterioration in English Communication among college
learners of the City College.
This course is designed to develop, improve, and refine the student’s
vocabulary,comprehension, literary comprehension, and study skills,
to help him become an independent reader. It includes brief
background knowledge of the nature and psychology of the reading
process and various topics related to the acquisition and refinement of
reading skills.
This project aims to:

a.refinethereadingskillsofthestudentsoftheCityCollegefor
themtocope withthechallengesofacademic andeveryday life.

b.improvetheirproficiencyinEnglishgrammar and Literaturein


order toeffectivelyexpress themselves intheEnglishlanguage.
a. To master guidelines for effective reading.
b. To provide meaning of words by means of definition, comparison,
contrast and explanation.
c. To identify idiomatic expressions from selected articles and provide
meaning as to how it is used in context.
d. To get the main idea from selected SRA materials.
e. To review lessons on topic sentence, developing sentences and
concluding sentences.
f. To differentiate the three terms: homonyms, homographs and
heteronyms.
