o Writes a research title

o Describes background of research

o States research question
o Indicates scope and delimitation of study
o Cites benefits and beneficiaries of study
o Presents written statement of the problem
 It summarizes the main idea or ideas of your study. A good
title contains the fewest possible words that adequately
describe the contents and/or purpose of your research paper.

 The title is without doubt the part of a paper that is read

the most, and is usually read first. If the title is too long it
usually contains too many unnecessary words, e.g., “A study
to Investigate the….” On the other hand, a title which is too
short often uses words which are too general. For example,
“African Politics” could be the title of a book, but it does not
provide any information of the focus of a research paper.
 It should be something new or different from what
has already been written about.
 It must be original.
 It should be of researcher’s interest and researcher
must be with the topic.
 It should be clear, not ambiguous.
 It should consider the financial capacity of the
research to support the project
 It must necessarily arouse intellectual curiosity.
 Background of the Study includes information which
would focus attention on the importance and validity
of the problem. It is the general orientation to the
problem area. A brief rationale to justify the problem
must be provided.

 For a good background, the researcher can state

the antecedents of the study, the reasons why this
topic is proposed relative to previous studies.
 Discussion of the problem in general and the specific
situations as observed and experienced by the
researcher (macro-micro approach);

 Concepts and ideas related to the problem including

clarification of important terminologies.

 Discussion of the existing or present conditions and what

is aimed to be in the future or the gap to be filled-in by the
research.
 A research question is an answerable
inquiry into a specific concern or issue. It is
the initial step in a research project. The
initial step” means after you have an idea of
what you want to study, the research
question is the first active step in the
research project.
 Clear- it provides enough specific that one’s audience
can easily understand its purpose without needing
additional explanation.
 Focused- it is narrow enough that it can be answered
thoroughly in the space the writing task allows.
 Concise- it is express in the fewest possible words.
 Complex- it is not answerable with a simple yes or no
but rather requires synthesis and analysis of ideas and
sources prior to composition of an answer.
 Arguable- the potential answers are open to debate
rather than accepted facts.
1) Choose an interesting general topic. Most
professional researchers focus on topics they
are genuinely interested in studying.
2) Do some preliminary research on your
general topic. Do a few quick searches in
current periodicals and journals on your topic.
3) Consider your audience. For most college
papers, your audience will be academic but
always keep your audience in mind when
narrowing your topic.
4) Start asking question. Taking into
consideration all of the above, start asking
yourself open-ended how and why questions
about your general topic.
5) Evaluate your question. After you’ve put a
question or even a couple of questions down
on paper.
6) Begin your research. After you’ve come up
with a question, think about the possible paths
your research could take.
 Scope - describes the coverage of the study. It
specifies what is covered in terms of concept,
numbers of subjects or the population included in
the study as well as the timeline when the study
was conducted.

 Delimit - by citing factors or variables that are not to

be included and the boundary in terms of time
frame, numbers of subjects, participants or
respondents who are excluded. Specify that which
you will not deal within the study.
 What- the topic of investigation and the variables
included
 Where- the venue or the setting of the research
 When- the time frame by which the study was
conducted
 Why- the general objectives of the research
 Who- the subject of the study, the population and
sampling
 How- the methodology of the research which may
include the research design, methodology and the
research instrument
BENEFICIARIES
 Non-academic beneficiaries
 Academic Beneficiaries

BENEFITS
 Personal Benefits
(e.g. awareness of ethical issues, to work independently)
 Educational Benefits
(e.g. working with a faculty mentor, applying concept to
real-life)
 Professional Benefits
(e.g. exploring potential careers, enhancing your
professional communication skills)
Title of the Study: Marketing Strategies of Panabo City Street
Food Vendors in Attracting Customers
The outcome of the study will greatly benefit the following:
 Vendors/Business owners. The vendors or business
owners will be able to know the perfect strategies in a way
of having a very effective business.
 Future entrepreneurs. The outcome of the study may
help those future entrepreneurs to minimize failures in
business at the first place.
 School. This study would sustain the school to have
sufficient and relevant ideas about Marketing Strategies
that can cater students, teachers or even faculty staffs who
have willingness to start a business venture.
 Teachers. Through this study, teachers would serve this as a
guide and a source of new knowledge and serves as a tool to
have a better understanding in planning a sideline business
across streets.
 Students. The study would help the students conduct more
about the marketing strategies in attracting customers and apply
it in their study.
 Parents. The output of the study may help the parents who have
the willingness to start a sideline business to get extra income for
daily needs.
 Future Researchers. This study provides background
knowledge and serves as the basis as they administrate a study
in relation of this study.
 This is the basic difficulty, the issue, the area of concern, the
circumstances which exist, then, how they ought to be. The
researcher should give the background which led to this
circumstances that exist. Briefly describe the condition or a
situation that exist which is perceived as something less than
the ideal; or what it should be and how you see it to be.

 The statement of the problem tells what is done to make the

situation that exist more like what it should be. It exposes
anything that is wrong with the situation or condition or
circumstance which is being describe. It has two main elements:
(1) the objective and (2) Research Questions .
 Objective or purpose of the study
The first part of the problem where the
researcher states the objective. This is a
statement of a long-term objective expected to
be achieved by the study.

 Research questions or investigative problems

These are the specific question which are to be
answered in the study which is called research
question and are all in question form. The answer
to the research questions should lead to the
solution of the research problem.
