1. WATER SUPPLY:
Minimum water supply for office building according to (IS 1172 1993) Is
45 litres of water consumption per head/ per day.
2. DRAINAGE AND SANITATION:
• Adequate arrangements shall be made for the drainage of all sewage
and waste water.
• The drainage shall be designed to cause no stagnation

WASTE MANAGEMENT
• Efficient collection and disposal of garbage
from a building or activity area is of significant
importance to public health.
• The various systems for waste management are
• Refuse chute system:
• Safe mode for collection of solid
waste from building exceeding 5

• The waste is received from
successive floors through inlets
on the vertical system of pipes
that convey and discharge the
waste into the collecting chamber,
located at ground level.
• Service lifts:
• Service lifts may be used for
carrying waste in packets or
closed containers.
FIRE AND SAFETY
• Provisions like emergency lighting, dry riser, escape lighting, CLEAR exits,
evacuation lifts, fires exits, sprinklers etc., should be provided.
• A doorway on a fire resisting wall shall not exceed 5.6 sq m in area with
maximum height of 2.75m
• The fire rating of the doors and fire resisting walls should not be less than
120 min
• No exit door should be less than 1000mm
• Maximum travel distance(fire exits) should not exceed 30m
FIRE AND SAFETY
• Fire fighting shaft: AN enclosed shaft comprising of lobby, staircase, and
lift, connected directly to exit discharge or exit passageway.
• Minimum width provision for staircase office buiding shall not be less
than 1500mm
• Minimum width of the passageways and corridors shall not be less than
1500mm.
• The walls of the shaft shall be of non combustible material.
• Handrail shall be provided with a minimum height of 1000mm from the
centre of the tread.
RAIN WATER HARVESTING
• Harvesting of rainwater simply refers to the collection of water from the
surface on which rain falls.
• Provision of rainwater for Govt. and semi Govt. buildings having an area
of more than 250 sqm. Shall have rainwater harvesting structure and
storage shall have recharge pits.(PUDA 2017)
• And shall have emphasis on both storage and reuse.
• The diameter of the gutter and the width of the G.I sheet used for the
collection of rainwater for a rooftop area of than 250 sqm
• With Rainfall intensity of 100 mm/h shall be, D-246 and W- 156.

CIRCULATION AND PLANNING
LIGHTING AND VENTILATION:
• Adequate lighting and ventilation are the fundamentals of a congenial
workplace.
• Adequate natural lighting through windows.
• For interiors, Installations of lights at strategic points to reduce glare and
maintain a contrast ratio. Using adjustable and sufficient workstation
lighting.
• Lights should be placed to the right or left of the field of view.
• Natural ventilation and better air quality help in doubling the cognitive
ability of employees.
• Proper operation, design, of office ventilation systems are mandatory to
improve indoor air that is free of allergens and pollutants.
• Louvers, and windows with Jhalis can be provided to enable entry of
natural light and also help in ventilation.
