Determine the current situation of TNHS regarding the management of waste Identify the existing practices of solid waste management on waste segregation, on- site storage, collection, transfer and transport, processing and recovery, and disposal that can be implemented at TNHS Measure the significant difference in the assessment made by the SSG officers and non- SSG officers regarding the existing practices of solid- waste management that can be implemented at the TNHS Determine the possible ways and means to manage solid- waste for reduction, reused, recycling, and recovery Formulate policy measures to effectively manage the solid- wastes of the TNHS. RESEARCH DESIGN
Thisscientific inquiry used the
descriptive- analysis and descriptive- comparative methods. INSTRUMENTATION
The researcher devised
opinionnaire and questionnaire to gathered relevant data from the teachers and students. STATISTICAL TREATMENT The data were treated using frequency count, simple percentage, weighted arithmetic mean, and the t- test for independent samples. FINDINGS Trash bins are provided in the classroom / or corridors. However, there are some individuals in the school who are just putting their trashes on the trash bins without considering the segregation of waste. The respondents noticed that in TNHS , there is no appropriate on site storage. The collection of waste is done every MWF. There are assigned students who disposed their solid waste following the MWF schedule but some failed to do their task hence keeps overflowing garbage bins. SSG and class officers automatically separate the recyclable material from the disposable waste and kept in the classroom or any place designated by the SSG officers. Respondents believed that the existing practices about waste segregation can be continued. The respondents see the need for having a storage of waste before the scheduled collection and properly labeled trash bins for the practice of waste- segregation. In gathering of solid- wastes, regular collection and hauling of solid waste to transfer stations are essential. A definite time for the transfer of solid- waste from the classroom to the storage and transport of the same from storage area to dump site is very important. Collection of recyclable waste materials from the storage area should be done to be converted into something useful and sorting out of solid waste from the classroom and offices should be consistently done to save time and effort. Proper disposal methods should be done in throwing solid wastes. SSG officers gave higher rating compared to the non- SSG officers which means SSG officers are very positive that the existing practices of solid – waste management can be implemented at the TNHS. CONCLUSION There are some problems that need to be properly addressed to make solid waste management effective. Some existing practices of solid waste management can be implemented. There are possible ways and means to manage solid waste. There is a significant difference in the assessment made by SSG officers and non- SSG officers regarding the existing practices Of solid- waste management that can be implemented at the TNHS. RECOMMENDATION Implement the SWMP policies framed by the researcher. Create a committee who will rigidly monitor the SWMP policies and procedure. Involve the AP and TLE areas in the implementation of the SWMP; properly labeled trash bins provided in every classroom, offices and corridors. Designate a place that will serve as the on- site storage of wastes and make concrete plan on solid- waste processing. By :
