Abstract
An abstract is a self-contained, short,
and powerful statement that describes a
larger work. An abstract should contain:
 The importance of the research.
 The problem the work attempt to solve.
 The specific models or approaches
used in the larger study.
 The specific data that indicates the
results of the project.
 The discussion regarding the findings
in a more general way.
 The changes that should be
implemented as a result of the findings
of the work.
Introduction
Posters are widely used in the academic
community in summarizing information
or research concisely and attractively to
help publicize it and generate
discussion.
This template served as a guidelines for
Faculty of Engineering Technology
students in preparing their poster
presentation.
 The poster must consists of a brief
text mixed with tables, graphs, or
pictures.
 The entire poster must be printed on
an A1 size paper.
 Orientation of the poster must be in
portrait style.
Literature
 This poster presentation template
served as a guideline to assist the
student in giving structure with which
to begin.
 The students can design and use their
own poster presentation templates.
 Student poster presentation will be
viewed from a range of 4-8 feet. Thus,
the font must be large enough to be
read from that distance.
 Suggestion for effective font choices
and sizes:
Title = 100 pt bold font (Ariel)
Section Headings = 48 pt bold (Ariel)
Body Text = 28 pt (Times New Roman)
Captions = 24 pt (Times New Roman)
Student Picture
Methodology
Keep the methods section
minimal
Use a graphic of the steps or
make a bulleted list
Do not present complex
details of methods
 Students must be very careful in
choosing the background colour of the
poster presentation because the text
will look much less defined in the
printed version when viewed on a
computer.
Results and
Discussions
 Ensure the data in results section are
organized systematically.
 Students are encouraged to use a table
which is much better than a list.
 Students can use a bulleted list if
appropriate.
 Students must also remember to put
units where appropriate.
 In overall, results sections typically
have very little text.
 Students are required to explicitly
discuss the findings in the discussions
section.
Conclusions
 Students are encouraged to directly
address the question proposed in the
introduction, using the same
terminology and phrasing.
 This section can be used by the
students to recommend how their
results might be used, and explain
how they’ve added to the knowledge
base in their field.
References
 Student must keep the list of
references short (three to five entries).
 Use small type (16 pt.) if the list must
be long.
 Use UTHM format style guide for
references.
