LEARNING STYLES

NTRODUCTION
Learning styles is described by a student's sensory modalities.

Teaching styles and tools also vary and include giving lectures, holding discussions, role
playing, or demonstrating. Mismatches between teaching styles and student learning styles
can cause students to become inattentive and unproductive in class.

Numerous learning style inventories are available to identify individual student learning styles.
These inventories help both student and instructor learn how the individual student best
processes new information. Therefore, the instructors administer learning style inventories to
obtain a profile of students' learning styles. Students will undoubtedly learn more effectively if
instructors match their teaching styles to student learning styles.
ATIONALE
It is very important to meet learning styles of all student as this helps both the student and the
teacher. It will help the
students in a way that on their own, they can look out for the things that can help them and for the
things they need to do to adapt and how to adapt in learning, the same way that the teachers can
learn from the students learning styles on how they can work well on what works best and suits
each learner. “Student should be aware of their learning styles which
teachers need to guarantee this” (Pask 1977).
Knowing a students learning style helps learning to be orientated according to the preferred
method. That said, everyone responds to and needs the stimulus of all types of learning styles to
one extent or another - it's a matter of using emphasis that fits best with the given situation and a
person's learning style preferences.
NTERNATIONAL
Students prefer to learn on their own, in their own pace, in a familiar surrounding than in
groups. Students tend to get information differently, such as by “viewing and listening,
reflection and action, to reasoning logically and intuitively and also scrutinizing and
visualising” (Felder & Henriques, 1995).

With this in mind, a study was conducted to investigate the most preferred learning styles
of students taking English 1119 paper in SMK Tengku Intan Zaharah (Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia) and if the teachers were aware of these learning styles.
ATIONAL
This study aims to discover the preferred learning styles of Senior High Schools students of La
Consolacion University Philippines using the Canfield Learning Styles Inventory (CLSI)
A sample of students were gathered for the study and where the Canfield LSI were administered.
Results showed that, according to the Canfield LSI scale, most SHS students are social learners.
Recommendations and ideas for differentiation are also provided in this study.
Learning styles refer to the “view that different people learn information in different ways”
(Pashler,2009).

T
žhis study was conducted to determine students’ learning styles and preferred effective
teaching styles of BUKIDNON State University – GINGOOG External Studies Center taking
Bachelor of Elementary Education Major in General Curriculum for the second semester of
school year 2015-2016. Specifically, the findings served as a basis in developing a compendium
of learning activities. Data were gathered through the survey among the forty-three regular first
year college students. Evidently, this reveals that there are many students who perceived that
effective teaching should be student-centered. Therefore, the teaching style of the instructor
should match with the student’s learning style. Their learning styles should be a guide for
diversified teaching methods catering to the needs of the students.

SYNTHESIS
Learning styles help the students way of learning, whether they learn in their preferred
learning styles or they adjust to it to learn. The teachers makes an important role of
helping out the students understand and know what their learning style is and how to
cope with the needs of how it will be helpful to both learner and teacher.
This study makes you understand what it is to be a learner and a teacher in
understanding the different learning styles.
RESEARCH QUESTION

What actions help best in determining

the preferred learning style of the
learners?
THEORETICAL LENS

Kolb's experiential learning theory works on two levels: a four-stage cycle of

learning and four separate learning styles. Much of Kolb’s theory is concerned
with the learner’s internal cognitive processes. Kolb states that learning involves
the acquisition of abstract concepts that can be applied flexibly in a range of
situations. In Kolb’s theory, the impetus for the development of new concepts is
provided by new experiences.
(Kolb, 1984,).
