LIMITATIONS
• Decrease in demand: Due to the introduction of low priced variety of Paithani
brocade, the demand for the traditional pure silk and gold brocade has fallen.

• People are less aware: Low level of aesthetic awareness among the younger
generation, threatens the existence of the original weave. Awareness of the GI,
Silkmark and Handloom Mark must also be increased among the general public
and the customer must ensure that the Paithani they are buying contains all
three tags.

• Competition with powerloom made sarees: Nowadays people prefer powerloom

sarees over such handloom sarees because of their durability and they are
easy to handle.

• Highly priced: The manufacturing cost of these products is many a time so high
that it makes the price unaffordable for the regular middle class market.
• No proper government support: There are few existing government
policies which provide the artisans with subsidies to set up their
handlooms but nothing further.

Losing the traditional value: As the process of weaving is slow and
tedious, the younger community does not prefer doing the traditional jobs
and are migrating towards the cities. This has also caused loss of
traditional knowledge.
SCOPE
• With the introduction of ‘make in India’ scheme people have started to
incline towards handloom products rather than machine made goods. This
has lead to a marginal increase in demand of Paithani sarees lately.

• Instead of sticking to few items such as sarees, clutches only they should
make more end products such as Suits, kurtis, scarfs, etc which will be
easier to use and people would like to buy and use them often.
