 CUISINE OF UNITED STATES

The cuisine of the United States reflects its history. The

European colonization of the Americas yielded the
introduction of a number of ingredients and cooking
styles to the latter. The various styles continued
expanding well into the 19th and 20th centuries,
proportional to the influx of immigrants from many
different nations; such influx developed a rich diversity
in food preparation throughout the country.
 BREAKFAST
Breakfast in the United States often consists of some combination
of hot or cold cereals, eggs, breakfast meats, and breakfast quick
breads such as pancakes, waffles, or biscuits. Variants of the full
breakfast and continental breakfast are also common. Coffee is a
common beverage, as is tea. Orange juice, tomato juice, and other
fruit juices are consumed by people of all ages. In the United
States, 65% of coffee is drunk during breakfast hours. Milk is also
widely consumed, drunk either plain or prepared with various
flavorings, such as chocolate or strawberry. The average starting
time for breakfasts has been found to be 8:12 a.m. This varies from
8:08 a.m. in the South to 8:17 a.m. in the West.
 LUNCH
In the United States, lunch is usually a moderately sized meal
generally eaten around noon. During the work week, North
Americans generally eat a quick lunch that often includes some
type of sandwich, soup , or leftovers from the previous night's
dinner (e.g., rice or pasta). Children often bring packed lunches to
school, which might consist of a sandwich such as bologna (or
other cold cut) and cheese, tuna, chicken, or peanut butter and
jelly. Adults may leave work to go out for a quick lunch, which
might include some type of hot or cold sandwich such as
a hamburger or "sub" sandwich. Salads and soups are also
common, as well as a soup and
sandwich, tacos, burritos, sushi, bento boxes, and pizza. Some
individuals may pack leftovers for lunch. Lunch may be consumed
at various types of restaurants, such as formal, fast
casual and fast food restaurants.
 DINNER

The typical dinner in the United States is

consuming fried foods, pastas, pizzas,
hamburgers, fried chicken, sandwiches,
etc. In other cases, a formal dinner will be
served chicken and pasta.
 DESSERT
European colonization of the Americas yielded the
introduction of a number of ingredients and cooking
styles. The various styles continued expanding well into
the 19th and 20th centuries, proportional to the influx of
immigrants.
 HEALTHY FOOD

Healthy food is food considered beneficial to

human health and a healthy diet required
for human nutrition.
Foods marketed as "healthy" may be natural
foods, organic foods, whole foods, and
sometimes vegetarian or dietary supplements. Such
products are sold in health food stores or in the
health/organic sections of supermarkets.
