0_04 System Upgrade (2nd)

TAC 2 Internal Workshop

February 2006
General

There are 5 main tasks for BSC local upgrade

without HW changes and simultaneous alignment:
1. SW and database preparation
2. Software download to BSC and NEs
3. New database download to BSC
4. Software initialization and bring up process.
5. Test Call
Outage time

The affecting outage will be approx. 16 minutes as:

1. SW changes within BSC (6 minutes for initialization)
2. SW changes within BTS and TRAU (around 10 to 14
minutes by using BTS one)
Software Preparation

Prepare these items:

1. LMT BR7.0 and BR8.0
2. BSS SW BR8.0_04 Package
3. DBAEM BR7.0 and BR8.0
4. IDF Editor
Database convertion

How to convert Database:

1.Upload recent BSC DB.
2.Generate ASCII database using DBAEM BR 7.0
3.Convert ASCII database from BR 7.0 to BR 8.0
4.Set all Expswv as BR 8.0 suitable version
4.Generate dbfile.dba from ASCII file using DBAEM BR 8.0
5.Save the result
Software Download

Download these software to BSC:

1.BSC SW “HB010069.SWL” (create RSUSWLH)
2.BSC Patches (create RSUPCH)
3.TRAU SW “HT030019.SWL” (create RSUSWLH)
4.BTSPlus SW “HS011734.SWL” (create RSUSWLH)
5.BTSOne SW “HS011734.SWL” (create RSUSWLH)
6.BTSEmicro SW “HS011734.SWL” (create RSUSWLH)
7.NE download from BSC to TRAU and BTSs

Do not forget to “GET INFO” element after download completed

New database download

Download the new BR 8.0-related DB to BSC:

1.Download new BR 8.0 dbfile.dba to RSUDB
2.Get info RSUDB
System initialization

Check these requirements before BSC initialization:

1.System must be in normal state and no operation in progress
2.All redundant are working well
3.Operational state of new DB and SW must be enable
4.DB version has to be compatible to SW load.

Be aware that the initialization will take around 6 minutes for BSC
bring-up and additional time for NE alignment.
System initialization

Initialization with HW changes:

1.Make sure that the active copy for all module is in copy_1
2.Lock Disk:1
3.Lock MPCC:1
4.Lock TDPC:1
5.Lock PWRD:1
6.Switch off PWRD:1
7.Extract MPCC:1 and TDPC:1, disconnect the hotlinks and flat cables.
8.Replace MPCC:1 and TDPC:1 with MPCC V9 and TDPC V9.
9.Reconnect MPCC flat cable only since hotlinks are not compatible.
System initialization

10.Switch on PWRD:1
11.Unlock PWRD:1
12.Perftest Disk:1
13.Unlock Disk:1
Once the disk is unlocked, the cross copy is started. But MPCC:1 and
TDPC:1 will stay in disable because hotlinks problem
14.Set BSCESUSW and BSCESUDB to “Backup_ESU”.
System initialization

Start Initialization:
1.Switch off BSC Base power
2.Disconnect cables and extract MPCC:0
3.Disconnect cables and extract TDPC:0
4.Replace MPCC:0 and TDPC:0 with new board V9
5.Connect all cables for MPCC and TDPC both copy
6.Switch on PWRD:1
MPCC FW will restart from backup repository of disk copy_1
7.Switch on PWRD:0
The system detects that Disc not aligned and initiates crosscopy.
Test Call

Perform test call procedures:

1. Location update
2. MOC (Mobile Originating Call)
3. MTC (Mobile terminating Call)
4. Handover
5. GPRS PDP Context (If available)
