ethics
1.Form yourself into groups of 4 members each
2.Come up with a word or phrase that can be
associated with “communication)
Communication can be in the form of:
• written
• Verbal
• non-verbal
• and visuals
• 1.Written communication involves texts or
words encoded and transmitted through
memos, letters, reports, on line chats, short
messages or on line chat, short message
service or SMS, electronic mail or e-mail,
journals and other written documents
Verbal communication involves:
• An exchange of information through face to
face, audio and/or video call or conferencing,
lectures, meetings, radio and television.
• NON-VERBAL communication involves the use
of the following to convey or emphasize a
message of information.
• A. Voice-This includes tone, speech, rate pitch,
pauses and volume.
• Body language-includes facial expression,
gestures, postures and eye contact.
• Personal space or distance-refers to an area of
space and distance that a person from a
different culture, personality, age sex and
status adopts and puts for another person.
• Personal appearance-refers to how a person
presents himself or herself in a particular
situation, whether formal or informal.
• Visuals –involves the use of images, graphs,
charts, logos and maps.
• 3. Use a semantic web to clearly show the
relationship of ideas on communication
• 4. Assign a representative to synthesize the
information and share it to the class.

Communication can be in the form of

you to:
• Know your audience
• Determine your purpose
• Identify your topics
• Expect objections
• Establish credibility to your audience
• Present information clearly and objectively
• Develop practical useful way to seek for feedback
Communication Process
• The communication process involves elements
such as source, message, encoding, channel,
decoding, receiver, feedback, context and
barrier.
• Source-the speaker or sender of message
• Message-the information or ideas sent
• Encoding-the process of transferring the
message
• Channel-the means to deliver a message such
as face to face, telephone calls, e-mails, memo,
etc.
• Decoding-the process of interpreting an
encoded message
• Receiver-the recipient of the message
• Feedback-the reaction or responses of the
receiver to the message from the sender
• Communication can be one-way or two way
process ..HOW?
Communication Ethics
• Effective communicators observe ethics. Which
means the observe values, righteousness and
behavior appropriate for human communication
particularly in multicultural situation
• Below are some ethical considerations:
1.Uphold integrity-Be truthful with your opinion and be
accurate with your judgement
2.Respect diversity of perspective and privacy
Show compassion on the beliefs, status, affiliations
and privacy of others.
3. Observe freedom of expression effectively- be
careful of what you are going to say and how you
will say it.
4. Promote access to communication-Give
opportunity to others to express what they think or
feel about the message communicated
5. Be open minded-accept that others have
different views and opinion which may conflict
with yours.
6. Develop your sense of accountability.
7. Acknowledge responsibility on what you say
or do.
Guidelines for effective
communication
• Be clear with your purpose
• Support your message with facts
• Be concise
• Provide specific information in your feedback
• Adjust to the needs, interests, values, and beliefs
of your audience
• Be natural and confident in what you are saying.
