INSTRUCTION:
Group the students into 2. Each group will be given the
materials they are going to use match to light the
wood and must light the paper without getting it burn
in the fire.

MATCHES/LIGHTER, WOOD, PAPER
INSTRUCTIONS:
Using the same groupings. Each group will write
in manila paper the common causes of fire. And
post it on the board.

When left unattended
Electrical cords. Curtains, tea towels and even
cloths are so close to the stove top.
When long flowing sleeves are contacting gas
flames
If installation was not done by qualified
electrician
Capacity overload
If safety switches and correct fuses were not
installed
Smoking in bed can cause fire – tiny embers
can smolder unnoticed and burst into flame
much later.
Poor light fittings can cause heat build up
Lampshades are so close to light globes and
lamp bases that can be knocked over easily
Recessed down lights are not properly insulated
from wood paneling or ceiling timbers
When flammable liquids such as petrol,
kerosene, methylated spirits are not stored
properly. Storage should be away from heat.
Unsafe handling and use of flammable liquids is
a potentials fire hazard
When candles are left unattended. Do not
sleep with a burning candle.
When curtains and other flammable items
are close to burning candles.
When children are playing with fire. Keep all
matches, lighters and candles out of reach of
small children.
Children are not well oriented about fire
hazards and fire safety

INSTRUCTION:
Watch the following movies:
1. TOWERING INFERNO – A classic 1970s disaster movie about a fire that breaks out in a
state-of-the-art San Francisco high-rise building during the opening ceremony attended
by a host of A-list guest. An overworked fire chief and the building’s architect must
cooperate in the struggle to save lives and subdue panic while a corrupt, cost-cutting
contractor tries to evade responsibility for the disaster.
2. LADDER 49 – is a 2004 American drama film, directed by Jay Russell, about the heroics
of fictional Baltimore firefighter Jack Morrison, who is trapped inside a warehouse fire,
and his recollection of the events that got him to the point. The movie is a celebration of
the fire fighting profession and the lifestyles associated with it, The film stars were
Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta.
After watching these films, answer the
following questions:
1.Identify the causes of the two fire incident.
Describe and compare the precautionary measures
and procedures employed in addressing the two fire
incidents.
3. describe the roles of firefighters in fire fighting and
fire control.
