ENGINEERING, JABALPUR
SEMINAR
SESSION : 2018-19
TOPIC : RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE

PRESENTED BY
SHUBHAM SAHU
ROLL NO.- 1844
RENEWABLE ENERGY
Renewable energy is energy
that is collected from
renewable resources, which
are naturally replenished on
human timescale , such as
sunlight, wind, rain , wave,
and geothermal heat.
 Renewable sources of
energy also called as
in-exhaustible sources of
energy
THE MAJOR TYPES OF RENEWABLE
ENERGY SOURCES ARE

 Solar energy sources

 Wind energy
 Hydropower
 Biomass
 Geothermal
WHAT IS SOLAR ENERGY

 Solar energy is radiant

light and heat from the sun.
 It is the most importance
source of renewable energy.
 It is available free of cost
and absolutely non-
polluting.
Solar panel use in solar
energy about (one cell
produced 1.5 watt of power )
ADVANTAGES RENEWABLE ENERGY

Available in nature
 Free of cost
 Inexhaustible
 little pollution
 A very large amount of energy could be generated in
this way
 Renewable energy project can also bring economic
benefits to many regional areas .
UTILIZATION OF SOLAR ENERGY
PERCENTAGE RENEWABLE ENERGY
SOURCES IN INDIA
 India is one of the largest
production of energy from
renewable sources. In the
electricity sector, renewable
energy to installed power
capacity (75.325 GW) in 2018.
 2022 targets raising energy
generation from all renewable
sources to (175 GW).
 100 GW - Solar energy.
60 GW – Wind energy.
10 GW – Biomass, 5 GW- small
hydropower (2022 targets)
HOW SOLAR ENERGY WORK

 Electricity can be produced

directly from photovoltaic, PV,
cells. (photovoltaic literally
means “light” and “electric”)
These cells are made from
materials which exhibits the
“photovoltaic effect” i.e. when
sunshine hit the PV cell, the
photons of light excite the
electrons in the cell and cause
then to flow, generating
electricity.
SOLAR POWER IN AGRICULTURE
SECTOR
INSTALLED RENEWABLE POWER
CAPACITY IN INDIA

Wind – 29,15.15 MW (58.8%) Sales

Solar – 9,566.6 MW (18.6%)

Bio mass – 8,182 MW (15.9%) 0.2%
8.5%

15.9% 1st Qtr

Small hydro – 4,346 MW (8.5%) 2nd Qtr
3rd Qtr

Waste to – 114.06 MW (0.2%) 18.6%

58.8% 4th Qtr
5th Qtr
WIND ENERGY
Wind energy is a form a solar
energy. The process by which
wind is used to generated
electricity. Wind turbines
convert the kinetic energy in
the wind into mechanical
power. A generated can convert
mechanical power into
electricity.
the minimum wind speed of 10
km/hr is considered to be
useful for agricultural purpose.
TYPES OF WIND MILE

Horizontal axis wind turbine :

Vertical axis wind turbine :
ADVANTAGES/ DISADVANTAGES OF
WIND ENERGY
HYDROPOWER ENERGY
Hydropower (from hydro meaning
water) is energy that comes from the
forces moving water the fall and
movement of water is part of a
continuous natural cycle called the
water cycle
 India' is installed utility-scale
hydroelectric capacity was 44,594
MW.
 13.5% of its total utility power
generation capacity
ADVANTAGES/DISADVANTAGES
HYDROPOWER
Advantages : Disadvantages :
 Renewable 1. Dam are expensive
 Generally no required fuel 2. Affected nearby wildlife
 Constant energy 3. No rainfall = No electricity
 Cheap
 No pollution
 no green house gases produced
doesn’t produce carbon dioxide
BIOMASS ENERGY
Biomass is organic material that
comes from plant and animals,
and it is a renewable sources of
energy. Biomass contain stored
energy from the sun. plant
absorb the sun’s energy in a
process called photosynthesis.
When biomass is burned, the
chemical energy in biomass is
released as heat.

ADVANTAGES OF BIOMASS ENERGY

Clean, renewable
source of energy.
Utilizies waste material.
Biomass is non polluant
of atmosphere.
High energy efficiency.
Does not release
additional CO2 into the
atmosphere.
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

 Geothermal energy is the heat

from the earth.
 It’s clean and sustainable.
Resource of geothermal energy
from the shallow ground to hot
water and hot rock found a few
miles beneath the earth’s
surface, down even deeper to the
extremely high temperatures of
molten rock called magma.
ADVANTAGES/UTILIZATION
GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

 Highly potential.
Low operational cost .
No enviromental impact .
It reduces our reliance on fossil fuels.
It saves 80%, cost over fossil fuel and
no fuel is used to generate the powe
 Geothermal energy is very efficient
and long last lasting
