EDUARDO QUISUMBING
Born November 24,1895 in Santa Cruz,Laguna Philippines.
Died August 23,1986 in Quezon City,Philippines.
Son of Honorato de los Quisumbing and Ciriaca Arguelles-Quisumbing.
Earned his BSA in Biology from the University of the Philippines Los Baños in
1918 and His Masters in Botany in the same University in 1921.
Earned a Ph.D. at The University of Chicago(in Plant Taxonomy,Systematics
and Morphology)in 1923.
A Filipino Botanist and a noted expert in the Medicinal plants
FACTS
of the Philippines mainly the Philippine Orchids.
An author of more than 129 scientific articles, many on
orchids.
He was appointed as Systematic botanist in 1928.
Served as acting Chief of the National Museum of the
Philippines.( Division of Bureau of Science in Manila)
Later served as Director of the National Museum of the
Philippines until retiring in 1961.
The plant “Saccolabium Quisumbingii” is named for him.
Quisumbing was attached to the College of Agriculture at the
University of the Philippines(1920-1926)and from 1926 to
1928 at the University of California.

MARIA OROSA E YLAGAN
Born November 29,1893- February 13,1945 in
Taal ,Batangas.
A Filipino Food Technologist, Pharmaceutical,
Chemist, Humanitarian and War Heroine.
Experimented with Foods native to the Philippines
and Formulated food products which later on called
“Magic Food”,that helped saved lives of Thousands
of Filipinos, Americans and other nationals that was
held prisoner during the World war II.
Taught proper preservation of native dishes such as
Adobo, Dinuguan, Kilawin and etc.
