are well. I have just returned from a trip up the
Kinabatangan River. It was an extraordinary 非

• I saw real mangrove trees for the first time.
They were amazing! They had roots that grew
downwards 往下 from the tree trunks into the
ground. They looked like stilts 桩柱 supporting
the trees in the wet muddy ground. There were
also roots that stuck out like sticks from the
water. The guide told us that these roots were
like snorkels 通气管, taking in air from the
atmosphere for the trees.
• Along the way, we spotted a large bird on a
tree branch. It had a huge bill that curved
downwards 弯. That's a hornbill,' I said
excitedly. The guide nodded 点头. Later, we
saw two crocodiles at the river bank. They
swam towards us but our boat sped off 急速离
开 before they could reach us.
• Soon we arrived at a quiet place in the
forest. A troop of proboscis monkeys 长鼻猴
appeared on the tree branches. They had
enormous noses and big round stomachs. We
marvelled 感到惊奇 at their looks and watched
in wonder as they swung from branch to
branch.
• ‘The plants and animals here are
fascinating. They are the treasures of
Malaysia. So, we must always take good
care of them,’said Mum. Dad and I
agreed with her. I am sure you will agree
