while showing Viva La Virgin! The festival lasts
for 7 days.
• Bicolanos are very artistic. Their region is
rich in culture and they love to cook. Their
preference of spicy food is such that no food
is good for them without red pepper and
coconut milk. The people of the Bicol region,
called Bicolanos, speak any one of the
several varieties of Bicol, an Austronesian
language closely related to other Central
Philippine languages such as Cebuano and
Tagalog. The Bicol languages are the
dominant languages of the region.
The Bicolano is conservative. They believe it is
safe to stick to the old than take a risk in the new.
To some extent however, the educated Bicolano
has begun to change gradually. The Bicolano
people are largely an agricultural and rural people,
producing rice, coconuts, and hemp. Nearly all of
them are Roman Catholics. The Bicolanos live in
the provinces south of Luzon Community namely
Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes,
Masbate, Albay and Sorsogon. With large tracts of
land, farming has become the chief occupation of
the people. They also engaged in fishing, logging,
cattle-raising and handicraft.

The story of the Legend of Mayon Volcano is a
tragic story,. Because it shows that the two lovers
were separated. But even though they were away
from each other, they did not give up and they
fought for their love until the end of their lives.
A girl named Daragang Magayon had many suitors from
different tribes, one of them is Pagtuga, but Daragang
Magayon did not love Pagtuga.
She had given her heart to Panganoron, the one who
saves her from death in the river. After saving her life,
Panganoron started to court her, and after some days
she finally accepted his proposal, and so Panganoron
decided to ask Daragang Magayon's father, Rajah
Makusog for her hand in matrimony. The father accept
him.
When Pagtuga heard of the news he got very angry, so he
decided to kidnapped Rajah Makusog and took him to the
mountains, then he told everyone that he would release
him if Daragang Magayon would marry him. Afraid that
Pagtuga would hurt her father, she accepted to be his wife.
When Panganoron knew about the situation, he
asked to his warriors to fallow him to the mountain
to fight against Pagtuga,
Panganoron killed Pagtuga, but later he was killed by an
arrow thrown by one of Pagtuga's warriors.
Sadly another arrow pierced Daragang Magayon
when she was running to the arm of his love,
killing her.
After the battle was over, Rajah Makusog dug a grave and laid
the bodies of both lovers in it.
As days passed by, people who went to the grave to pay
respect, saw that the grave was rising, turning into a land
form and they started to call it mayon.
A long time ago, there was a rich land called
Ibalong, in this land there are monsters that
are roaming in the dark forest. Baltog looked
for tandayang(boar),
after the fight, Baltog went to his house in tondol
and carry's the bones of tandayang.
The second hero came to the Ibalon named handyong
and his man. They fought a thousands of monsters,
They fought also the Dambuhala for 10 months, the fight
didn't stop until they defeated the all monsters.
So they decided their next attack to the triburon(shark w/
wings). They fought all the triburons until all of them were
gone.
Handyong decided again to looked for oryol(half lady & snake
w/ beautiful voice). He followed the beautiful voice and was
almost enchanted by it in his pursuit. Days and night passed,
Oryol admired the bravery of handyong. So Oryol helped
handyong to defeat all the monsters, and then they succeed, so
the land of Ibalon restored the peace in its own place.
After a heavy rain, flash food , earthquake,
and eruption of three volcano.
The giant Rabot appeared after pasacao , and then bantong knew that Rabot appeared, so
he took a thousand of army with him to attack. But bantong use his wisdom, so bantong
didn't attack Rabot yet, because he just observe the weaknesses of Rabot. So then he
realized that Rabot only sleep at day and stay awake at night. So he took advantage of it,
he came to the place of Rabot at day time he saw a stones around of its shelter, and it was
the warriors who turned into stones by Rabot. And then he came near to the sleeping
Rabot, Rabot slept very soundly, so Bantong drew his very sharp bolo and cut the giant
into two, so Rabot died,
and because of that they
restored the peace of Ibalon.
Chapter 2
The Legend of Mayon Volcano

Idea, lesson, philosophy:

The lesson are expressed in the story the Legend of Mayon Volcano is a story
of love and death, it shows that they are willing to sacrifice their lives for love,
although they did not ended up together, they are still together in the afterlife.
The values is sacrificing for love because it shows how the two character love
each other and they are willing to sacrifice for their love. It forces to
determined their event its because it is all about the legend of Mayon Volcano,
that the author wrote this by his or her own imagination that how the story
goes by and what the things happen in the story, it also tells us that how the
volcano created and formed. We as a student we supposed to learn about the
Mayon Volcano that what is it all about, it has a perfect cone shape and it was
so pretty like Magayon, and we must learn that love is so powerful and
important because without love their is nothing that was show in the story
that they love each other and they are willing to sacrifice their lives because of
love.
Ibalon

The reader, yourself as a reader

The epic poem of Ibalon gives us a feeling of being

overwhelmed. The best feature of the poem is about
how each hero defended their territory and fought for
freedom and it really stands out their character of
being or having an act of heroism and bravery. While
reading the epic story or poem of Ibalon, it happens to
make me think of how it is related to our culture as
filipinos that each of us has its own set of ways in
standing firm to our beliefs or culture.
Conclusion;
What did you learn about the regional culture and how it
relates to us as filipino?

We learn about the regional culture in Albay, their festival is

Magayon Festival, and the place of Albay are rich in culture and
arts, culinary fair, and natural wonders in the countryside.
Camarines Norte is its capital is Daet and provinces borders
Quezon to the west Camarines, Sur to the south. Camarines
Norte is nestled between two regional tangues such as Tagalog
and Bicolano. It has distinction for being a crossroad of the
tagalog and bicol culture.
Camarines Sur has the most numerous town and barrios, it is a
province located in the Bicol region in Luzon, it's territory
includes two cities (Naga the lone;Chartered City, as the province
religious
Cultural, and financial. Camarines is an Island province
located in Bicol region of Luzon in the Philippines.
Masbate city serves as the center of trading activities in the
province. Bantique Dance Festival is the Festival of Masbate
City, officially the city of Masbate is a 4th class city and
capital of the province of Masbate, philippines.
Catanduanes is the island province located in the Bicol
Region of Luzon in the Philippines. It is the 12th largest
island in the philippine its capital is Virac and the province
lies to the east pf Camarines Sur across Maqueda Channel.
The festival of Catanduanes is Catandungan Festival and it is
celebrated every October to commemorate the foundation
anniversary of Catanduanes.
Sorsogon is a melting pot of cultures and influences.
From its earliest days as trading post frequented by the
Chinese and Malay merchants. The province has an
agricultural economy with coconut, rice, corn, abaca, and pili
nuts as the major products.
And also each of the places in Region V really stands out to
us as Filipinos because they have different styles and faith
,when it comes to natural practices, and it relates to us
Filipinos because despite the differences we learn to adapted
and respect our own beliefs, that makes us a wholistic Filipino
Individual.
