Packaging of thin films
Packaging of thin films
• The packaging manufactured film must easy to handle, and allows
easy formation of the flexible pouch by either vertical or horizontal
forming method during product filling. And this point so very
important to provide protection of thin film formulations too. It
acts as a barrier to the
moisture light Oxygen

• Because thin film very fragile.

Aluminium foils are most
commonly used and
considered ideal for thin
film packaging.

Lidding foil has been

employed if tamper
proof packaging.
A single dose sachet with a
name pocketpacks.
Similiarly , a slit / cut-off is
manufactured to ensure
convenience for the
consumer to peel-off the
pack
Routes for the administration of
thin films
• Oral Route
• Ocular Route
• Transdermal Route

• More than 90% of the marketed ocular formulations are in the form
of solutions or suspension.
• The success of the effective development of films to be delivered to
the eye relies on the comprehensive knowledge of the drug, the
constraints to ocular drug delivery, and the excipients used.
TRANSDERMAL RUOTE

Drug-loaded transdermal film area the

alternative to replace the existing
transdermal dosage form.
The film forming system has been practiced
for the transdermal delivery of steroidal
hormones,analgesics,local anesthesia and
antiemetic for systemic effects.

and conclusion
Future scope of development and conclusion
• The brief review on oral films concludes with the note that they are considered as
amost promising and important drug delivery system because of their rapid
disintegration include dissolution properties especially with pediatrics and geriatrics
patient.
• They can be applied by both oral, buccal, sublingual, ocular, and transdermal routes.
• apart from being used as medicament films(local anesthetic ,vitamins supplements
and cold allergy remedies).they can also be used for refreshing the breath. This
techonology is growing in fast pece challenging most of the pharmaceutical
companies to develop oral films for a wide range of active pharmaceutical
ingredients.
• The future looks very promising for the film technology in the time to come as new
technologies are rapidly introduce to prepare thin films.
