or general. You also have the skills
and techniques to organize and

of the different patterns in
developing your text you are
going to use.
Patterns of Development
-it will guide you in creating
your own writing style.
DESCRIPTION
- Writers use this kind of paragraph
development if they wish to describe
something.
 It can also be used in academic
writing especially if the author
wants to convey event, place,
person, or emotion.
2 TYPES OF
DESCRIPTIVE
DEVELOPMENT
SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION
-The readers experience the
world the same as the author
sees it and understand the
important things the narrator
values in the world he is living in.
DESCRIPTION
- This kind of description
presents a reportorial
perspective of a scene, event,
character, or whatever is being
described.
The personal opinion of the
author is neglected to give an
objective, factual, and scientific
view of what is being described.
 It is like writing using a video
recorder that records only
what is being observed
without putting any personal
belief or judgement.
Writers must have a
controlling idea so that
readers will know the
purpose of description.
REMEMBER
Though it is hard to overcome
biases, you must consider your
purpose as a writer to fully
understand which two kinds of
description is the best strategy in
doing you work
-Details in description are
very important in writing.
-These details connect the
readers to the word which that
author is trying to create.
GOOD WRITERS
are more specific in their description,
trying to find words that best describe
their subject,
choosing concrete expressions and
using figurative language
rather than using an abstract or general
description.
Example:
GENERAL SPECIFIC

My Pet My cute little pug with a

blunt nose
She loved him She gently kissed him on
his left cheek
Vegetable Salad Caesar’s salad with
thousand island dressing
The use of specific details
will draw the attention of the
readers more than the
general descriptions.
