PUBLIC WAREHOUSES

• Provide storage and physical distribution services on


rental basic
• Used by small firms and large firms
• In India owned and operated – central warehousing
corporation and state warehousing corporation
• Suitability – seasonal production or low volume storage
needs , companies with inventories maintained in many
locations , firms entering new markets
PRIVATE WAREHOUSES

• Operated by a company for shipping and storing its own


products
• Construction – farmers near their fields , wholesalers and
retailers near their business centre and manufacturers
near their factories
• Suitability – firms that require special handling and
storage features and want to control design and operation
of the warehouse
CONTRACT WAREHOUSES

• Contract warehouse operators take over logistics


responsibility from manufacturing company
• Long term relationship and customized service
• Expertise of management
• Shared resources with several clients
AUTOMATED WAREHOUSES
• As companies and warehouse managers look to streamline
operations , improve efficiency and production , and reduce costs
, warehouse automation is on the rise. But , people have a very
different idea of what warehouse automation is.from robots to
automated processes , warehouse automation encompasses
automated technologies that promise to increase productivity by
leaps and bounds
• Goods – to – person technologies (gtp)
• Automated storage and retrieval systems (as/rs)
• Pick – to – light - systems
• Autonomous mobile robots (amrs)
CLIMATE CONTROLLED WAREHOUSE

• Warehouse handle storage of many types of products


including those that need special handling
• Such as freezers for storing frozen products,humanity –
controlled environments for delicate products , including
produce or flowers , and dirt-free facilities for handling
highly sensitive computer products
DISTRIBUTION CENTRE WAREHOUSES

• Warehouse or other specialized building , often with


refrigeration or air conditioning , which is stocked with
products to be redistributed to retailers to wholesalers or
directly to consumers
• A distribution center is a principal part , the order
processing element , of the entire order fulfillment process
• Distribution center are usually thought of as being
demand driven
