 ALEXANDER HUMBOLDT:

Alexander von Humboldt nació en Berlín (Alemania)

el 14 de septiembre de 1769 en el seno de una
familia de la nobleza prusiana.

Geógrafo, naturalista y explorador, se especializa

en diversas áreas de la ciencia como fueron:
etnografía, antropología, física, geografía, geología, mineralogía, botánica
vulcanología y el humanismo, por lo que es
considerado el
"Padre de la Geografía Moderna Universal".

Se formó intelectualmente en Berlín, Fráncfort del

Oder y Gotinga. Su primer Viaje fue en 1790 y lo
llevó a lo largo del río Rhin hasta Holanda y de allí a
Inglaterra. Regreso a su país en el marco de la
Revolución Francesa, lo que contribuyó al
fortalecimiento de sus ideas liberales.
UNIT ONE
En 1793, Humboldt es
designado Superintend
ente de Minas,
después de haber
estudiado durante dos
años en la
Academia de Minería
de Freiberg. En ese
mismo año publica
su primer trabajo sobre
Flora subterránea. En
1795,
colecciona plantas en
los Alpes y durante el
año de 1797 estudia
Astronomía con von
Zach y Kohler y viaja
hacia Francia,

CARL SAUER: “Morfología del Paisaje”
El término ‘paisaje’ es propuesto para designar el concepto unitario de la
geografía, para caracterizar la asociación de hechos peculiarmente geográfica.

Área y Región se consideran, muchas veces, términos equivalentes. Área es, por
supuesto, un término general, no distintivamente geográfico. Región ha venido a
implicar, para algunos geógrafos al menos, un orden de magnitud.

Landscape [paisaje] es el equivalente en inglés del término que los geógrafos

alemanes están utilizando de manera amplia y estricta con el mismo significado,
una “land shape” [una forma del suelo], cuyo proceso de conformación no es de
ninguna manera pensado como simplemente físico. Podría ser definido, por tanto,
como un área compuesta por una asociación distintiva de formas, tanto físicas
como culturales (Sölch, J., Auffasung der natürlichen Grenzen (1924), ha propuesto es término
‘Chore’ para designar la misma idea).
Considerar al paisaje como si estuviera vacío de vida es una abstracción forzada,
un “tour de forcé” de toda buena tradición geográfica. Puesto que estamos
primordialmente interesados en “culturas que crecen con vigor original a partir
del regazo de un paisaje natural maternal, al cual cada una está vinculada en
todo el curso de su existencia,” (Spengler, O., Untergang des Abendlandes, vol. 1, p. 28: 1922-23).

El contenido de la geomorfología ha sido definido de la manera más amplia por

Penck47 , quien incluyó las siguientes formas: llanuras, laderas, valles, cuencas,
montañas, formas cavernosas, litorales marinos, fondos marinos, islas.
