ABSTRACT:
IOT has made it possible to increase the capabilities of daily-use electronic and electrical systems
which also includes the home security system. the purpose of this project( door look system based
on facial recognition) is to have a IOT based approach to the door lock system used in the
household. The traditional door lock system used in the house holds are vulnerable to theft and
burglary. Hence, a lock system based on the face recognition can be used. In this, the mechanism
in which the door is locked and unlocked remains the same. But the trigger for the locking and
unlocking the of door is changed along with an added feature of automation. In case of any
noticeable illegal entry the user of the door lock system will be notified . The core of the system
is an rasberry pi board and a camera. Along with this, a database of trusted face will be uploaded
with the help of which locking and unlocking of the door will be done.

INTRODUCTION:

In most of the household still traditional lock systems are used. An approach based on IOT can be
used to upgrade this system. Door unlock based on the facial recognition can be included. In this,
a raspberry pi will act as the core of the system. A camera will be used to recognize the face. A
well trained database with a bundle of data involving trusted faces will be used. This door lock
system is cost effective and ensure high security. the user of the door lock system should less than
250 cm from the camera. Incase of a unrecognized face along with denial of access, a alert
notification will be send to the user in the form of text message to their smartphones.
LITERATURE REVIEW

[1] Intelligent Security Lock by author Varad Pandit, Prathamesh Majgaonkar, Pratik Meher, Shashank
Sapaliga, Prof.Sachin Bojewar.

Abstract:
 It acts as smart electronic/digital door locking system.
 The lock is controlled using mobile app via Bluetooth.
 Provide intrusion detection in the form of notification to users.
 Can also be used for surveillance.
 Stores all the locking and unlocking information in the database.

Components used:
 Raspberry pi- it is used as a core microcontroller. Provides Linux environment.in-built with Bluetooth and Wi-
Fi facilities.
 Motor driver IC L298- it is used to change polarity i.e., direction of output current.
 Solenoid- it to used as an actuator to perform locking and unlocking of the door.

Advantages:
 provides two steps authentication (face recognition and OTP)
 Real time camera feed.
 Remote wireless operation.

Disadvantages:
the camera provides proper results only under the bright light and decent camera quality
In [2] Smart Home Security using IoT and Face Recognition by authors Suraj Pawar, Vipul Kithani, Sagar
Ahuja, Sunita Sahu .

 In this proposed system, the raspberry is accompanied by sensor such as PASSIVE INFRARED SENSOR(PIR)
and ultrasonic sensor.
 Face recognition is done by Local Binary Pattern.
 Incase of illegal entry by intruders an alert message will be send to the owner of the house via email.
 The system is battery powered in case of power failure.

Components required:
A. Data generation unit: consist of sensors such as PIR and ultrasonic sensor.
 PASSIVE INFRARED SENSOR- used for motion detection.
 ULTRASONIC SENSOR- to detect proximity or range for distance measurement between camera and person.
 STEPPER MOTOR- it is used to change over computerized beats into mechanical turns.

B. Data processing unit:

It consist of raspberry pi B+ which has face recognition algorithm to detect faces.

Advantages:
 Scalable, flexible, cheaper bacause of the use of raspberry pi B+.
 Low power requirement( minimum 5v).

Disadvantages:
 Distance between camera and person must be less than 240 cm.
 Only has an accuracy rate of 80%.
[3] Design of Face Detection and Recognition System for Smart Home Security Application
by authors Dwi Ana Ratna Wati , Dika Abadianto

 The design is implemented using myRIO 1900 and programmed using lab VIEW.
 System communicates through WI-FI network.
 Facshirte recognition is based on PRINCIPAL COMPOUND ANALYSIS.
 It uses password as the second layer of the security.

Components used:
 Camera: it is a webcam used as a image acquisition device.
 myRIO 1900: it’s the main controller which contains the software for image acquisition, face
detection as well as the face recognition.
 Personal computer : it is used as a user interface, image display and monitoring.

Advantage:

 Low cost and effective due to the use of myRIO 1900.

Disadvantages:
 Shirt colour of the user must not be same as the skin colour.
 No face accessories.
 Only has a accuracy rate of 80%.
In [4] IoT Based Smart Security and Home Automation System by authors Ravi Kishore Kodali, Vishal Jain,
Suvadeep Bose and Lakshmi Boppana .

 This IOT based project focuses on building a smart home security system.
 It sends alert to the owner by using internet in case of illegal entry or tress pass.
 The leverage of this system is irrespective of distance the user will be notified.
 The microcontroller used in this system TI-CC3200 launchpad.

Components required:
 TI CC3200 Launch Pad
 Accessible Wifi
 Pir motion detector Sensor
 Alarm
 Relays for connecting home appliances, electromechanically
 controlled doors or windows,
 Mobile phone to recieve Voice Call
 Energia (Software).

Advantage:
 Low cost, take care of both home security and home automation.
 Controlled using keypad from phone.
 No data connection needed in the phone.

Disadvantage:
Complex hardware setup compared to the other alternatives.
EXISTING SYSTEM

[5] Face Recognition System Using IoT By authors Sandesh Kulkarni, Minakshee Bagul, Akansha
Dukare, Prof. Archana Gaikwad.

 this system provides detection and recognition rapidly.

 It makes use if webcam and internet connection to create a door that that unlock itself via facial recognition.
 When an unauthenticated tries to login , the face will be captured and would send an gmail attachment of
the intruder’s face.
 Temperature sensor is used for home temperature monitoring.

Components used:
 Rasbperry pi: it is a microcontroller board used for development of various embedded leveel projects.
 Stepper motor: it is brushless, it is used for digital pulses into mechanical rotations.

Advantages:
 It is low cost system which can be made under 5000 INR.
 Using this system, the home can be monitored and controlled remotely, as we can place sensors at the
different places.
 This is an IoT based system and hence can be made automated.

Disadvantages:

 It has a single point failure.

Further development on the existing module.

 The project we have undertaken is closely related to [6] Face Recognition System Using IoT .

 The existing module has a disadvantage that it has a single point of failure.

 it has been proven that the traditional facial recognition can be forfeited.

 The newly developed module will have an added security backup feature called retinal scan which
will act as a second layer of security.
