The consequences

of the Fall
LESSON 11
I. SHAME
Adam and Eve hid themselves from
God because they were suddenly
aware of their nakedness. Shame
led to fear and alienation.
II. Death
God had warned, “But you must
not eat from the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil, for
when you eat of it you will surely
die.” (Gen 2:17)
As God had warned, they were driven from
the garden, from the tree of life, and from
the presence of God. Adam did not
immediately die physically; in fact, he lived
nine hundred and thirty years, but the
process of disease and mortality began the
moment he sinned.
Psalm 90:8-12
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret
sins in the light of your presence. 9 All our days pass
away under your wrath; we finish our years with a
moan. 10 The length of our days is seventy years —
or eighty, if we have the strength; yet their span is
but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and
we fly away…. Teach us to number our days aright,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
3 TYPES OF DEATH
1. Physical death
Physical death occurs when the
spirit is separated from the
body and the body returns to
dust (Gn. 3:19).
2. Spiritual death - Spiritual
death is separation from God. All the
unregenerate are separated from God
by sin (Eph. 2:1-3); they may pass from
death unto spiritual life by exercising
saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
(Eph. 2:4-6; 1 Jn. 5:11,12; Col. 1:13,14,18-23; 1 Cor. 15:54-57)

1 Corinthians 15:21-22
For since death came through a
man, the resurrection of the dead
comes also through a man. For as
in Adam all die, so in Christ all will
be made alive.
3. Eternal death - Eternal death
is the condition of those who are
spiritually dead, who depart this
earthly life without repentance of sin
and without faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ.
Eternal death is the punishment of
those who are terminally
unbelieving, unrepentant and
disobedient (2 Thess. 1:7-10).
The judgment unto eternal death (also
called the second death) will take place
at the end of the Millennium before the
Great White Throne of God. It will be a
judgment for sinners only.
