JOURNALISM AND COMMUNICATION DEFINED-

Both communication and journalism are closely linked


since communication stands for sending and
receiving of the information between or amongst
individuals whereas journalism is an advanced form of
communication since it is targeted and has
anticipated effects . Journalism is the activity of
gathering, assessing, creating, and presenting of
certain piece of information . Both intend to
communicate with individuals and both are a medium
of exhange verbally or non -verbally .
FEATURES OF COMMUNICATION AND JOURNALISM
1. Both lead to transmission of specified information

2. Both of them lead to integration in the society by passing


of information form one source point to another point .

3. Thirdly, both follow persuasion , since communication


follow more of informal persuasion in day to day lives of
individuals whereas journalism follow persuasion through
some medium maybe through print or digitally and both
are biggest source of entertainment
THEORIES OF MEDIA
LIBERTARIAN THEORY : DEFINITION

Libertarianism – libertas meaning freedom , was


another normative theory of mass
communication which was strictly against the
authoritarian theory and asserted rationality
and free thoughts into the mainstream
FEATURES OF LIBERTARIAN THEORY

1. Originated in 16th century


2. Asserted individualism and free thoughts
3. Minimal presence of state.
4. Promoted rationality and absolute freedom
5. Encouraging pluralism and following laissez
faire approach .
ADVATAGES :

1. Transparency in communication within the


nation .
2. Keeping up the essence of true democracy
and a room for dissent and anti-regime voices
3. Lastly , establishing media as the fourth
estate by empowering them to work under
liberal and state-blockage free atmosphere
DISADVATAGES

• Fails to check growing hegemony of media


outlets .
• Media being unresponsible and unaccouted
for at times.
• Flow of any kind of information whether
unauthentic or cooked-up stories .

The authoritarian theory: developed in late


renaissance this was based on the idea that
truth is the product of few wise men .

RESPONSIBILITY THEORY :
Since the theory was presented in 1963.

to the content

of the world according to marxist leininst principles
The social responsibility theory : it is for the press to recognize
its responsibility towards the society such as providing
information , discussion and debate on public affairs protecting
the rights of individuals against the government through its
watchdog function.
