PROCEDURES
MORNING ROUTINE

• Place jackets, sweaters, etc. in locker. Change shoes or boots if necessary.


• Enter the class calmly and quietly.
• Check the daily schedule.
• Place books in your desk.
• Check your agenda for messages. Place on Ms. Tara’s desk if there is a
message.
• Place your schoolbag in your locker.
• Take a book to read.
SILENT READING
• You will read a book in the morning when you arrive and after lunch.
• AM: You may chose your book once your schoolbag is in your locker.
• PM: You will read for 20 minutes. Chose one book that will take 20 minutes or
two smaller books.
• You may not circulate during reading period.

• Library: you may read a book in French if you desire.


TALKING IN CLASS
• You must raise your hand to ask a question or make a comment.
• Do not come to my desk unless I instruct you to do so.
• Do not speak while Ms. Tara or another student is speaking.
• During class discussions, remember to use your indoor voice (no shouting)
• Remember to let your partner or group members finish before speaking.
• You must speak only English.
BATHROOM
• Please use the bathroom before class in the morning, at morning recess
(am), lunch and afternoon recess (pm).
• I will permit you to go if it is an emergency.
• Should emergencies become a regularity we will have a meeting about it.
• Only one person may go to the washroom at a time.
LUNCH
• When the bell rings for lunch you do not move. I will dismiss you.
• Clear your desk and push in your chair.
• Make sure you leave no personal items as other students will eat in the class.
CIRCULATION
• When we circulate in the school we do so in SILENCE.
• We walk properly and do not touch anything or anyone.
• If you speak, you will receive 1 warning.
• If you speak a second time you will receive a check in your agenda for
“transition et déplacement”.
IN-CLASS RESPONSIBILITIES
• You are responsible for keeping your class clean. Use the garbage bin,
recycle box and compost bin.
• If you make a mess, clean it up.
• You are responsible for keeping your desk clean and organized.
• No writing, colouring or engraving is permitted on desks.
• Each week, you will be given a period to clean and organize your desk.
• There will be class jobs. Students will have a different job each month.
FOOD & DRINK
• You may drink water in the class.
• Make sure to fill your bottle at home.
• Refill water at recess or lunch.
• Food is not permitted in the class except during the snack period.
• Snack period will be after recess for 10 minutes M-T-W-T. On Friday, snack will
be after physical education.
• You must bring your snack in when you return from recess. No one will be
permit to go to their locker to get a snack.
• Morning snack must be a fruit, vegetable or dairy product.
• Unfinished snacks will be put into the garbage as of 10 minutes. No food is
permitted in your desk.
END OF DAY ROUTINE
• When the bell rings you do not move. I will dismiss you.
• Clear your desk and put your up chair.
• Place books in your schoolbag and get ready at your locker.
• Make sure you do not leave food in your locker.
• Line up quietly in the class until I dismiss you.
• The person responsible for windows/lights must shut them.

• Be respectful to yourself, Ms. Tara, the students and the classroom:
1. Listen when other people talk,
2. Help other students,
3. Wait your turn,
4. Keep negative remarks to yourself (do not insult or laugh at others’
mistakes),
5. Take care of items in your possession,
6. Stay on task and complete your work,
7. Do not disturb other students

• Be courageous
1. Take risks: try even if it may be wrong,
2. Participate in class activities,
3. Ask questions if you don’t understand,
4. Talk to Ms. Tara if someone is intimidating you or others
5. Help friends that are being intimidated.
BEHAVIOUR BOARD
• Everyone starts in green.
• Good behaviour and participation may result in moving to blue or purple.
• 4-5 blue or purples = special note in the agenda
• Warnings for behaviour will result in moving into yellow, orange or even red.
• Orange = note to parents in the agenda
• Red = pyramid & phone call to parents
HOUSE POINTS
• You will be placed in groups in late September or early October.
• Groups will create names and flags.
• Once groups are formed they will compete against each other with house
points.
• Points will be given for participation, good behaviour, kind acts, etc.
• Points will be deducted for poor participation, undesirable behaviour and
incomplete homework, etc.
• In mid-November the group with the most points will win a prize to be
determined.
SCHOOLWORK
PARTICIPATION
• You are obliged to participate in all activities.
• Oral participation is essential. You must participate in revisions, conversations,
planned activities and in class life.
• Project participation is essential. You will do individual, partnered and group
projects. Your role is important and your group depends on you.
WORK COMPLETION
• You are to finish your work in the period given.
• Unfinished work must be completed at home.
• Unfinished homework must be completed at lunch during remedial.
• Unfinished tests will be completed at lunch during remedial.
HOMEWORK
• Homework will be assigned on Fridays.
• Homework will be due on M-T-W-T.
• You will complete reading activities and grammar activities for homework.
• Homework will be corrected daily.
• Studying will also be assigned.
• You will study vocabulary and grammar notions.
• You will be tested on the vocabulary and grammar notions on Friday.
ENGLISH MONEY
• Each student will receive 10$ of English money.
• If you speak French, you must pay me 1$.
• When you participate, you will receive 1$
• If you have 0$ you will lose your game period until you have money again.
• Lost game period = copying functional language & parent signature.
• 3 lost game periods = parent-teacher meeting.
• Students may pay for privileges with their money, including a pizza lunch in
November and in January.
• The privileges list will be posted shortly.
