2
What Is Recycling?

• It is an artificial word and unifies the syllable ‘RE’ standing for back to original
place again and ‘CYCLE’.
• However the term recycle is quite new the basic principle of recycling are much

Types Of Waste

• Hospital waste or Biomedical waste

• Municipal waste or household
waste
• Construction and demolition waste
• Sanitation residue
• Waste from street
• Industrial waste
• E-waste
4
Solid Waste Management Practices
• Segregation
• Collection
• Reuse/recycle
• Transportation
• Disposal
 Open dumping
 Landfilling
 Landfill gas-to-energy plants

5
History Of Waste generation.
• Over the centuries waste management was a sanitary
activity and it was sufficient that garbage was
transported out of cities.
• However after word war II, the amount generated waste
was increasing tremendously
• Hence environmental an health problems such as
pollution of air, soil and ground water occurred
• But Current European waste policy does not mainly aim
treat waste streams but rather place in the foreground of
interest the supply chain of product.

Some Interesting Facts About Recycling
• More than 60% of rubbish that
ends up in dust bin can be recycled.

• 80% of vehicle can be recycled.

• Glass can be recycled 100% and

reused.
• .
• It has been observed that 24 trees
are cut down to make one ton of
paper.

• Plastics, which can often be recycled, take around
500 years to decompose.

to power a television for 3 hours.

paper compared to making it from raw materials.
