Topic- Pressure Grouting

Introduction:
Pressure grouting is method of injecting specially formulated cement based
mixes under pressure to improve strength or reduce permeability of concrete
structures

Cement grouting is usually performed by drilling holes into application area to

intercept open cracks, joints, fissures or cavities, then pumping under pressure
balanced and stabilized grout mixes using a combination of cement, water, and
additives

Pressure grouting method is widely adopted and it is very successful in

solving leakage problems, cracks on masonry walls and R.C.C structures and
for sunken slabs
Materials used for pressure grouting
1.Ordinary Portland cement
2. Non shrink grout
3. Potable water

Pressure grouting procedure for leakages

1. PVC grouting nozzles of

130mm length & 10mm outer
dia, with a stopper at the outer
end, shall be fixed on the
concrete surface @ 1m C/C or at
the particular location of water
leakage, by drilling a hole of
same dia and inserting up to a
depth of 80mm. Cement paste
shall be used to fix and seal the
sides of the nozzle

2. After 24 hrs of fixing of nozzles, grouting operation shall be carried out

3. The Grout shall be prepared with mix of OPC & non shrink grouting chemical,
W/C ratio shall be maintained not more than 0.45

4. Grout mix shall be prepared of good consistency for ease in passing through
grouting pipe

5. Grout shall be pumped till the time it flows into the structure, filling all the
gaps inside. The consumption of grout in each hole shall be recorded

6. Once completed and grout is completely set, the projected parts of the nozzles
shall be removed, surface shall be cleaned and finished smooth

Slab Jacking Pressure grouting procedure for settled slabs

Slab Jacking is the injection of grout underneath controlled pressure by way of a

predetermined series of cored holes to elevate a settled slab to a new desired
location
Pressure Crack Injection

Pressure Crack Injection can be used to stop leaks, seal cracks and restore the
strength of chipped concrete

There are two types

1. Epoxy Crack Injection utilizes epoxy grout to structurally “weld” cracks to

completely restore the integrity of a structure. Once cured, the epoxy is stronger
than the existing concrete

2. Urethane Crack Injection is used to handle water leakage at joints or cracks.

After injection into a joint or crack, the flexible urethane grout responds with
water and swells, developing a tight, permanent seal against water flow
Epoxy crack injection method

1. Crack is exposed, wire brushed, and cleaned with compressed air

2. Surface ports are bonded to the wall over the crack using epoxy thixotropic
paste. NO DRILLING FOR THIS PROCEDURE

3. The entire crack surface is covered with epoxy thixotropic paste, creating an
inside dam to contain the liquid epoxy during injection

4. Once the epoxy thixotropic paste has hardened the injection phase begins by
injecting a 2 part low or mid viscosity epoxy (depending on the size of the crack)
through the surface ports and into the actual body of the crack. The epoxy
is usually injected from the bottom to the top
Epoxy crack injection method
5. Injection is continued from port to port from bottom to top. Crack
injection is complete when the epoxy begins to flow from the top of the crack.
Crack injection is by far the least intrusive most effective method to repair cracks
. The epoxy injected into the crack actually repairs the crack by creating a
structural weld within the concrete that restores the foundation wall back into a
monolithic structure…..it also waterproofs the crack of course!
