TYPES OF HOUSING
1. SINGLE FAMILY HOUSE - this is a free standing , single detached building
erected on its own.

A. It ranges from the lowliest ‘’bahay kubo’’ to haif hectare lot in forbes park.

2. ROW HOUSE - consist of individually owned units between plane party walls
on a separate lots.

A. The family duplexes and accessories belong to this classification

B. Row houses development in high urbanized centers are characterized by


lack of front yard.
3. GARDEN APARTMENT - it is selection of units in common ownership in which
each unit has a private outside door.

A. Example of these are the townhouses.

4. WALK-UP - a walk-up apartment is a group in which two or more units are


entered.

5. MEDIUM AND HIGH RISE APARTMRNT BUILDINGS - this type is considered the
highest density land use , particularly if apartment building is eight stories or higher .

A. The high concentration of population within a limited land area located


usually in highly urbanized centers imposes a strong pressure on common facilities.

B. It lacks open space , poor recreational facilities , and dearth of desirable


amenities.
FACTORS CONSIDERED
IN
BUILDING ADEQUATE HOUSING
1. ORIENTATION - planning the orientation of a prospective house in relation to the
sun and wind precedes the making of a floor plan.

2. REALATION OF ROOMS - the relation of rooms to each other has been fairly well-
established by tradition , based on function .

A. Naturally bedrooms and bathrooms are adjacent.

B. Also kitchen and dining rooms.

3. CONTINUITY OF SPACE - it is gained by elimination of partition whenever possible.

4. EASE OF CIRCULATION - one of the most important requirements in which one


should be able to go directly to any place in a house without unnecessary steps.
5. FLEXIBILITY OF USE - multi-purpose rooms are necessary in the compact
house today.

6. ZONING - zoning a house so that noisy activities are separate from quiet
ones is an important factor in room arrangement.

7. ECONOMY OF SPACE - economy of space is an important aim in floor


planning because the modern house should not contain useless spaces or idle
rooms.

8. APPEARANCE - a well grouped windows and well-proportioned rooms are


considered in the appearance of the house.
DESIGNING FOR PREFERENCE

 Family members must study their needs in a home to determine whether the
space they have gives them satisfaction.

 There are certain basic and special needs that homes should meet in order to
fulfill the functions of a home.
