The “Geordie” dialect
The Geordie dialect is a very famous
dialect of the UK because of how friendly
and difficult to understand it is for many
non-native speakers.

Geordie is spoken in a region of the North


East of England and most commonly in
Newcastle.

Geordie is currently a very popular accent in
Britain due to its perception as a very friendly
accent.

Call centres (such as those who deal with


customer’s complaints) often employ staff with
a Geordie accent because of their perception as
being friendly and helpful.
Unique Features

•have etc. forms of the verb have – had,


has, have and having [ɛ]

•head etc.nouns such as bread and head and


adjectives such as deaf and dead [i:]

•Newcastle- stress on medial syllable, not first


syllable
