History
• Initially every Customer is used to store their data
at their individual places, it finds very difficult to the
Customers.
•To overcome that issue W.H.Immon has invented
the concept called Data Warehousing.
• By this Way many customers can store their data in
a single Data Warehouse.
• At starting he used to load Data through Star
Schema .
Star Schema
Limitations of Star Schema

• In the middle he found some limitation like

Master Data Sharing is not possible,
All Dim ID’s are in alphanumeric format,
It doesn’t support multi Language and
External Hierarchy’s are not possible
• Over Star Scheme and to overcome that
limitations again he invented Extended Star
schema where we can overcome all the
Extended Star Schema:
Fact table in the middle surrounded by Dimension tables which are connected to Master data
via SID(Surrogated ID’S)

• Where Info Cube follows Extended Star Schema so W.H.Immon suggested Info Cube.
Info Cube
• These are the Central objects upon which the Reports and
Analyses in BW are based
• An InfoCube is defined as a multidimensional dataset which
is used for analysis in a BEx query.
• An InfoCube consists of a set of tables which are logically
joined to implement the Extended star schema.
• A fact table in the Extended star schema is joined with
multiple dimension tables.
• You can add data from one or more Info Source or
InfoProviders to an InfoCube.
• They are available as InfoProviders for analysis and
reporting purposes.
Info Cube has the following features
like
• It follows extended star schema
• It has additive functionality
• It maintains Summarised level of data as well
• It follows De-Normalization(where De-Normalization
means which doesn’t have Primary and Foreign Key Combination)
Types of Infocubes

• In BI 7.0 we are having 3 types Infocubes

which are mainly used.
1. Standard Infocube.
2. Virtual Infoproivder (or) Virtual Infocube.
3. Real-Time Infocube.
Standard Infocube.
• Used to maintain the data physically in the
cube.
• Read only is possible.
• The Structure of the Standard Infocube is One
Fact Table surrounded by the Dimension
Tables which are connected to Master Data via
SID (Surrogated ID).
Virtual Infoprovider (or) Virtual
Infocube.
• It does not maintain data physically in the cube .
• During the query execution it brings the data from respective
source system.
• These are mainly used for data reconciliation during integration
testing.
• Reconciliation means validating the source system data with BI
data.
• Types of Virtual Info providers:
The types of virtual info providers are defines based on the data
loading mechanisms
1. Virtual Info providers with Direct Access DTP.
2. Virtual Info providers with Function Module.
3. Virtual Info providers with BAPI’s(business app programming
interface)–which is used for Non-SAP.
Real-Time Infocube.
• Stores the data physically in the cube.
• Read and Write are possible.
• For Standard cubes, we can only load the data
where as in real-time info cube we can load the
data and also we can write the data into the
cube.
• That means while loading the data into the real-
time info cube Planning is not possible.
• Similarly while writing that data (Planning the
data) into the real-time info cube loading is not
possible.
Creation of InfoCube
• Go to transaction code RSA1
• Click the OK button.
• Navigate to Modeling tab->InfoProvider.
• Select an Info Area and Right click on it
• Click on “Create InfoCube” from the context menu.
• Enter the Technical Name and Description
• Choose the options like Standard/Standard with Real Time/Virtual Info Cube.
• Here We choose Standard Info Cube
• After that add all your Characteristics into Dimensions
• Add all your Key Figures into Key Figures
• Then just click on Activate.
• Creation of Standard InfoCube is Successful
Now we need to create Data Source.
To create, Select your Application Component under Source system
and Create your Data Source .
While creating your Data Source under Each tab fill the required fields
•After Creation of Data Source upon it perform Transformation, Info Package
and DTP
Conclusion
• When you create Transformation it will map
the source fields and Target fields.
• When you trigger Info Package the data will
move to PSA table from Source
• When we create DTP, completely data will
moved to Target(i.e Info Cube).
• Now we can Generate Report upon this Info
Cube at BEx Level.
