OBJECTIVE
To study the mechanical properties of the polypropylene reinforced paver blocks.
To determine the optimum amount of polypropylene to enhance the strength of the paver blocks.
To attain the right value by adding different proportions of the fiber along with the concrete mix by
the following tests,
1.Compressive strength test.
2.Flexural strength test.
3.Flow table test.
4.Impact load test.
…………….
Pavement blocks used to lay roads have more friction and grip due to their surface
texture, unlike the paver blocks which are used for decorative purposes.
It is durable to withstand all kinds of weather.
Low maintenance is required since the dirt on the surface can be easily washed
away by soap and water itself.
The colored paver blocks loses its color within time based on the usage and
exposure to ultraviolet rays.
Formation of weed and moss are inevitable due to the interlocking pattern.
INTRODUCTION TO PAVER BLOCKS
Paver blocks are brick like structures which are mostly made up of concrete.
They are available in many patterns, shapes and sizes according to their need.
Mostly used as a decorative material in parking area, sidewalk, small streets, factory floors,
dock yards ,etc.,.
They are laid in a particular pattern according to their use.
The concrete paver blocks has low tensile strength due to the absence of steel.
They also are less resistant towards cracking and abrasion.
………..
POLYPROPYLENE FIBRES
Polypropylene fibers acts as an internal reinforcement in the blocks and thus improves the
cement property.
Microfilament type polypropylene is used since the block molds are small and the
proportion needed for enhancement is in small fraction.
Since polypropylene can be melted they are produced by melt spinning process.
BEFORE--- AFTER---
Polypropylene fibers are available in markets as microfilaments and even as thin
films.
They can be added as small as possible, because they are malleable.
The size and length of the fibers added can make a significant change to the
properties of the mixture.
METHODOLOGY
INFERENCE---Addition of polypropylene fiber increases the ductility and shorter the fiber
length increases the workability of the concrete.

SCOPE OF THIS TITLE
The above mentioned journals all dealt with the changes regarding to the
compressive properties and the flexural strength properties of the concrete when added
with polypropylene fiber .As mentioned in the objective, the aim is to evaluate the values
for tests and co-relate with the conventional paver block value.
