PASSIVE VOICE
Passive voice is very popular good use in speaking (Conversation)
or writing. In the Indonesian known verbs beginning with in (given,
informed, written, etc). There are two sentences, namely active and
passive voice sentences.

1.The active sentences is a sentences that the subject is subjected to


the job

2.While the passive voice is a sentences that the object is subjected


to the job.
Subject + to be + verb 3
For example :

In active sentences

My mother writers a letter

In passive sentences

A letter is written by my mother

A letter is written by my mother

Subject to be Verb3

We use the passive voice when we want to make a more important and
active object when we know the location of the subject
FUNCTIONS OF THE PASSIVE VOICE

The passive voice is used to show interest in the person or object


that experiences an action rather than the person or object that performs
the action. In other words, the most important thing or person becomes
the subject of the sentence.
Use of Passive Voice based tenses
1. Simple Present Tense, use to be: ‘am’, ‘is’ or ‘are’

Example:

Active : He meets them everyday.

Passive : They are met by him everyday.

2. Present Continuous Tense, use ‘to be (am, is or are)’ + ‘being’.

Example:

Active : He is meeting them now.

Passive : They are being met by him now.


3. Present Perfect Tense, use to be ‘has been’ or ‘have been’.

Example:

Active : He has met them.

Passive : They have been met by him.

4. Present Perfect Continuous Tense, use to be ‘has been’ or ‘have bee


n’ + being.

Example:

Active : He has been meeting them.

Passive : They have been being met by him.


5. Simple Past Tense, use to be: ‘was’ or ‘were’.

Example:

Active : He met them yesterday.

Passive : They were met by him yesterday.

6. Past Continuous Tense, use ‘to be (was or were)’ + ‘ being’.

Example:

Active : He was meeting them.

Passive : They were being met by him.


7. Past Perfect Tense, use to be ‘had been’.

Example:

Active : He had met them before I came.

Passive : They had been met by him before I came.

8. Past Perfect Continuous Tense, use to be ‘had been’ +‘being’.

Example:

Active : He had been meeting them.

Passive : They had been being met by him.


9. Simple Future Tense, use to be ‘be’.

Example:

Active : He will meet them tomorrow.

Passive : They will be met by him tomorrow.

10. Future Continuous Tense, use to be ‘will be’ +‘ being’.

Example:

Active : He will be meeting them.

Passive : They will be being met by him.


11. Future Perfect Tense, use to be ‘will have been’.

Example:

Active : He will have met them before I get there tomorrow.

Passive : They will have been met by him before I get there tomorrow.

12. Future Perfect Continuous Tense, use to be ‘will have been’ + ‘


being’.

Example:

Active : He will have been meeting them.

Passive : They will have been being met by him.


13. Past Future Tense, use to be ‘would be’.

Example:

Active : He would meet them.

Passive : They would be met by him.

14. Past Future Continuous Tense, use to be ‘would be’ + ‘being’.

Example:

Active : He would be meeting them.

Passive : They would be being met by him.


15. Past Future Perfect Tense, use to be ‘would have been’.

Example:

Active : He would have met them.

Passive : They would have been met by him.

16. Past Future Perfect Continuous Tense, use to be ‘would have been’
+ ‘being’.

Example:

Active : He would be meeting them.

Passive : They would be being met by him.
